UK Cleaning Show shaping up nicely The UK Cleaning Show, initially postponed because of Covid, is starting to shape up nicely with lots planned for the event, which is now scheduled to take place at London's ExCel centre from 2nd - 4th November this year. There's an excellent line-up of speakers, who'll cover such subjects as: Researchers from Hiroshima University Hospital in Hiroshima, Japan, recently published a study confirming the efficacy of LightStrike pulsed xenon ultraviolet (UV) light disinfection technology on surfaces contaminated with the superbug vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE). Microbiologist shares top tips on how we can avoid catching Covid-19 and other respiratory illnesses Freedom Day - a day many of us had been anticipating for a long time, whether that would have been a sense of excitement or fear. It was a turning point in our relationship with the virus but unfortunately Covid won't disappear overnight as the restrictions have. There is still plenty we should do to minimise our risk of catching the virus or spreading it to other people. Val Edwards-Jones, microbiologist, gives her opinion: "It's important to think about the likelihood of bumping into someone who is infectious. We are at very high numbers of cases even though they are starting to flatten a little, I'd still recommend being cautious, especially within crowded areas. Debunking the myths about UV technology UV-C air purifiers have been used for years to eliminate airborne pathogens in healthcare settings. Due to the pandemic, they are also being used to protect health in schools, offices and all types of commercial facilities. These standalone units can be easily moved from one room to another, allowing them to protect occupant health wherever they are needed. As versatile as these systems are, some building owners, facilities managers and cleaning professionals are new to this technology. Further, many have heard unsubstantiated myths about UV-C air purifiers. Meanwhile in London, some are still using brooms for sweeping. It was great to showcase the alternative, and productivity gains the Xtrema sweeper can provide; the labour-saving over the course of the contract can be quite substantial! Ozone Clean has had a very interesting past 18 months with the pandemic and subsequent lockdown. “Due to the anti-viral properties of ozone, demand increased dramatically,” says the company’s Mark Powell. “We have been faced with many challenges and obstacles that we have overcome so as to support the increased demand from organisations to use ozone in the protection of their staff as well as domestic environments – including the Help a Hero – Make a Visor’ campaign.” CWS International GmbH, the German based services group, has acquired Specialised Sterile Environments (SSE), an Irish company specialising in Cleanroom cleaning, decontamination and hygiene services to the Irish Pharma and Medtech industry. This further expands CWS's international portfolio in cleaning and decontamination services in the highly specialised cleanroom segment and contributes to the company's sustainable growth strategy. SSE Cleaning has been sold by its former owner and founder Mary Connell. The deal was closed on 31st August 2021 for an undisclosed sum.
