Welcome to the Cleanzine
Just as the iconic Indie band Oasis will have matured since the guys’ last Wembley Stadium gig all those years ago, I sincerely hope for Kingdom Cleaning’s sake that the fans will have matured too. And as it’s 16 years since I shared this story, in the hope that you’ve let it fade away or that you’re a first timer, I’ll soldier on… A couple or few weeks after leaning on the front barrier at the Oasis gig, (but this time on the barrier at the same venue’s U2 gig) my daughter and I were clearly making the security guards chuckle. “Hello,” they said. “Why are you wearing waterproofs on such a fine day?”. When we replied that – having also been at the Oasis gig – we’d been covered in urine lobbed in plastic pint glasses by fans further back, they told us to listen up and that we wouldn’t need our waterproofs as U2 fans were better behaved. Chatting to them, we learned little by little that we’d not witnessed the worst of the behaviour, since many fans had chosen to defaecate around the edges of the general admission area rather than slide away to the loo. Chucking urine at fellow fans beggars belief in itself, but to have so little respect for other gig-goers and the stadium’s cleaners whose job it would be to deal with the excrement was unforgiveable. Bearing in mind how much more ignorant and badly behaved some people seem to have become over the past 16 years, the masterplan for Kingdom Cleaning would be to bring in extra staff so that fans attempting to engage in disgusting behaviour can be evicted. I’m always banging on about fly tipping but illegal dumping like this is beyond compare! Let’s hope that the only muck comes from the cigarettes & alcohol enjoyed during the gig and that Kingdom Cleaning doesn’t look back in anger at its currently-celebrated contract win. Do you know what I mean? Onto marketing… I often look at our industry’s promotional videos but rarely am I so impressed that I watch them several times. Pudu’s video (link further down the page) offers a masterclass in video marketing, with product specs playing an active role in the perfect production. Make sure you watch it! Finally, if you’ve emailed me over the past couple of days and I’ve not responded, my Internet service provider’s webmail has been down for a while and I’m told I shouldn’t expect it to be accessible until sometime tomorrow. If you’ve sent a press release you’re hoping I’d use, please check back next week if it’s not in today’s broadcast.
