Jim Melvin, who has served as deputy chairman of the BCC for the past two years, has taken over the chairmanship from Paul Thrupp.

Contracted-out staff at Royal Parks will take strike action later this month in an attempt to have their contracts brought into line with those of directly employed Royal Parks staff.
They say that Just Ask Estates, which has a contract to provide toilet cleaning services for the parks, has refused to recognise or engage with their union.
