Welcome to the
Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news Read by industry professionals in 148 countries worldwide! Welcome to the third of our daily bulletins from the ISSA/Interclean exhibition in Amsterdam, through which we’re attempting to bring you a flavour of the show, together with information on some of the best new products we’re uncovering as we go. When I tell people from outside the industry that I’m visiting Amsterdam for an exhibition, I tend to get a, “Well it’s alright for some” type of reaction; they seem to think that I’m swanning around having fun and not working very hard at all. If only they knew! John and I cover miles during these events – as our aching feet already (after just two days) attest, but I do feel rather lucky in as much as having been on the other side of things, I’m aware that it’s harder to work on the stands. You’re on your feet all day selling to people, demonstrating equipment, putting packs of leaflets together and restocking sample displays, sometimes having too many stand visitors to look after at once and others, hanging around and trying to entice passers-by to come and talk to you about your products or services (it’s not considered professional to sit unless you’re with a customer) which makes your feet and legs ache even more than if you’re able to walk around. Plus it’s pretty frustrating to be left wondering at what’s going on at the other stands, unable to leave your own to go and investigate. But it’s not all hard work. I write this having finished the day over a cold beer and a much needed sit down with Sabine Paul on the Hako stand, before heading across to Unger’s 50th birthday celebrations, where cocktails and live music were the order of the day. Two of the guests – from South Korea – had the place in uproar, singing live and doing a brilliant version of ‘Gangnam Style’. Hall 1 at the RAI will never be the same again! Then it was on to a tour of the Heineken brewery courtesy of our friends at Vax Commercial, to see how this world famous beer is manufactured, before an enjoyable dinner in the brewery itself. So no – it’s not all hard work, but what we do is on very little sleep indeed… Before I start talking about the new products we saw yesterday, those of you who know John McCormick who’s been in the industry for years in several different guises, will not be surprised at his reaction when I told him yesterday morning that I’d inadvertently promoted him to managing director of Dowding & Plummer, by mistakenly captioning an image of him demonstrating the new Victor LMX Excel floor cleaning machine, saying it was Barney Dowding instead. “Well, I’ll have to tell Barney I need a pay rise then!” he quipped! So what else did we see yesterday that excited us? VAH certified product range now even bigger Disinfection and cleaning fluid produced by the award-winning Toucan Eco, which gained Certification from the VAH Laboratories in Germany last year, can now be produced using a growing number of systems. For those unfamiliar with VAH accreditation, it’s recognised throughout the EU and accredited companies feature on a list that serves as a basis for the selection of appropriate disinfectants in hospital, medical and dental surgeries as well as public institutions and other areas in which infections may be transmitted. As usual there were a number of new machines on the Tomcat stand and Sean Gott explained that often at these shows, visitors will say things such as: "I like that machine but do you have a version that deals with the kinds of floors we have in our country?" Occupational skincare provider Deb Group, which recently acquired the Stoko skincare business from German manufacturer Evonik, is introducing a new Dispenser Monitoring System designed to benefit both facilities management providers and their customers. The network of wireless-enabled dispensers, compatible with Deb’s full range of high quality foaming soaps, transmits usage data to a server, predicting product usage and replacement, facilitating workflow planning and efficiency. John and I both tried new Deb GrittyFoam – a heavy duty foam hand cleanser that has a rich-creamy texture and suspended, non-abrasive cornmeal bio-scrubbers for deep-cleaning action. The rapid and effective cleansing action, combined with excellent skin feel during and after use, encourages compliance. Anglo-German Steam cleaning machine and pressure washer manufacturer OspreyFrank had an impressive line up of 'bit kit' machines on its stand, including the latest version of a conveyor belt cleaner which now operates without any discernible amount of steam being emitted from the cleaning head. This is thanks to an improved design which contains more of the steam and a much more powerful vacuum which leaves the moving conveyor belt both clean and dry. Managing Director Thomas Stuecken also showed us their new static steam generating model and some of the impressive technology that governs it. Keep your floors looking brilliant 3M is well known for its innovation and has been manufacturing noteworthy products for the cleaning industry for more than 50 years. Here, Florent Gumery, 3M’s European Technical Specialist who’s based in France, is demonstrating the effectiveness of a range of floor restoration products that, he says, enable you to refurbish your own floors and which eliminate the need to invest in specialist training or equipment. These include Trizact Diamond HX Discs, which can turn dull, scratched stone floors into beautiful shiny ones using standard floor cleaning equipment. Faster than traditional diamond grinding, the dust-free process can cut up to 85% off your costs. SanServ Concentrated Chemical Systems SanServ’s Suresave Optix, incorporating Aperture, is a space saving concentrate pouring/dosing system which aims to revolutionise the way liquids are poured from containers. Netherlands-based MB Dustcontrol BV is launching the Airmax Cleanmat – a novel ‘door’ mat that automatically sucks fine dust and dirt from the shoes and boots of people walking over it. It is activated via a sensor and timer. We see German manufacturer Solution at many international shows we visit, but the stand is generally so busy we don’t get a chance to talk to anyone. Yesterday there was a bit of a lull around lunchtime so we were able to meet Silke Gloeckner and the team, learn about some of the new launches and take a photo of the stand team. Silke told us that the products are all so new that the literature explaining exactly what they are, what they do and how they do it, hasn’t been finished yet. Truly eco-friendly, pre-dosed cleaning Soluclean is an eco-friendly and easy to use daily cleaning system offering pre-dosed, concentrated multi-surface cleaning products encapsulated in water soluble film, saving time, money and waste, reducing storage and transportation needs without compromising on high standards of cleanliness and infection prevention. All the cleaning products are fully biodegradable, phosphate free and meet the strict criteria of BUAV accreditation, carrying the leaping bunny, vegan and evoflower logos on the packaging. Distributor of The Year Award for Trafalgar British steam cleaning machine manufacturer Matrix took the opportunity of the show to present their distributor Trafalgar Cleaning Equipment with the Distributor of The Year award - which they have now won for the second year running. "It has been a tremendous effort from James and the team at Trafalgar to hold the award for the second time," said Matrix Sales Director Mike Osiadacz, on presenting the award at the UK Pavilion. As well as acquiring the Oreck Commercial brand, the UK's top selling floorcare brand Vax has completed its move into the professional and commercial marketplace and now offers cleverly-designed scrubber dryers as well as powerful vacuum cleaners, upright and portable carpet washers, steam cleaners and sweepers, all designed using the latest technologies, to meet the needs of commercial customers. Built to last, using high quality, commercial grade components, they are ideal for use in the toughest of working environments where they can deliver a premium cleaning performance. A great networking opportunity... Seeing the exhibition as a good networking opportunity was visitor Wim van Drunen, Technologies Director of Interpolymer, the manufacturer of cutting edge polymers for use in a wide variety of surface care and other speciality markets. “Our surface care polymers improve the appearance, cleaning ability, protective characteristics and overall cost of floorcare, carpet care and automotive products,” he told us, “And our industrial specialties polymers enjoy wide acceptance in a variety of coating, sealing and treatment applications.” The Cleanzine Archive Search We keep an extensive archive of news stories and product information that have featured in past issues of The Cleanzine. A welcome return and a novel machine
Prochem Europe is attending Interclean with two new key products from its extensive range of hot water extraction machines. “Protective heavy duty metal brackets or covers that fit over an existing dispenser can spoil the aesthetic look of the dispenser as well as make servicing more difficult,” argues Product Manager Nupur Saxena.
