It's long been recognised that an award (or few) under your belt is a great way of setting yourself apart from the competition and it's the same when it comes to cleaning - despite the role being awarded the title of 'Unsexiest Profession' in a recent survey (see more below)!
I'm delighted to see then that the Cleaning & Support Services Association has launched its CSSA Awards 2019 - which is now open for entries to anyone in the cleaning industry. You don't need to be a CSSA member to take part.
There's a choice of four categories (enter all four if you wish) and as these Awards are free to enter and there's a simple and quick entry process, it means that those without huge marketing budgets really do have as good a chance of winning in any category, as the 'big boys' have - as long as they're considered by the independent panel of judges, to be the best of course!
And as the Awards Ceremony is held at a presentation lunch - free to shortlisted candidates - on 20th March at the Cleaning Show 2019, in London's ExCel centre, there's no better way to show off to your peers and take advantage of the extra publicity that always surrounds this busy and vibrant show.
There are four categories: Contract Innovation, Training, Environmental & Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility - so if you think you're a cut above the rest, find out more now, since entries must be submitted by 21st December. Download an entry form at: www.cssa-uk.co.uk/awards/
Who says cleaning is 'unsexy'? We in the industry certainly don't think so! We just need to get the general public on board & make them see that it's one of the most important professions there is - and one that boasts an incredible camaraderie, as far as I'm concerned.

This Week's News
Cleaners have the 'unsexiest' job in Britain - with plumbers, accountants and taxi drivers close behind. The poll of UK professions, which quizzed 2,000 people, revealed that the cleaning profession was considered the most unsexy by nearly one in three Brits (28%). This is despite the industry contributing more than £24bn to the economy and employing more than 700,000 hardworking employees across the UK.
Stan Atkins, Chair of the British Cleaning Council, says of the findings: "The cleaning sector is incredibly important to the UK economy, and without it the country would grind to a halt. From tackling litter to keeping hospitals clean, the work our members do is vital to ensure we can all live in a hygienic, healthy and safe environment.

Held in Istanbul earlier this month at the Istanbul Congress Center, the show featured exhibitors from 14 countries, representing tissue mills and a range of suppliers including manufacturers of chemicals, wrapping/packaging equipment, converting machinery, packaging equipment and non-woven machinery.

Veltia 'My Brand' is a process that allows Veltia at the manufacturing stage, to permanently impregnate an image into the hand dryer. This image can be a logo, corporate message, advertising or pretty much anything and in any colour. The process provides the client with a bespoke hand dryer, one of a kind and a way of advertising the client's business.
The process takes three weeks to complete and is, surprisingly, available on any number of hand dryers - from two to 2,000.

Results from a comparison beach cleaning and litter surveying programme by Cromwell Polythene as part of its 35th anniversary activity and to mark Recycle Week (24 September - 30 September) indicate levels of seaside rubbish have decreased.
This follow up to similar research conducted by Cromwell Polythene during last year's Recycle Week shows reduced levels of waste across most material streams. The only increases compared to last year's results were for paper/cardboard, and metal which both multiplied significantly, and medical waste.
