Welcome to the Cleanzine
I often talk about how frustrating it must be for those at the sharp end of our industry, who've worked hard to clean an area, find that often before they've even finished cleaning, a member of the public will have carelessly - or perhaps deliberately - wrecked it, say by spilling food or drink, littering, not bothering to flush the toilet and/or leaving the toilet cubicle strewn with toilet tissue and the toilet itself smeared with excrement and urine on the seat. It really saddens me that people can't have more respect for their fellow human beings - not just the cleaners themselves, but also those who have to suffer the mess and potential germs before everything can be put right again. I couldn't help chuckling though at this example of someone in our industry having their hard work destroyed - not wantonly in this case just for the hell of it, but because what had been done didn't suit one or more of the building's users. I wonder how often members of the British Pest Control Association and their ilk, are called back to a job because the anti-bird spikes they've fitted haven't lasted as long as expected... I know crows are clever creatures and good at problem solving, but I had no idea that they could work out something like this:

‘Contributions of Cleaning Solution Residues to Indoor Organic Surface Films’: new report Residues from commercial cleaning products contain a wider range of compounds than previously thought. Since the outbreak of Covid-19, surfaces in public spaces are cleaned more often.
While disinfectant solutions eliminate germs, they don't leave behind a truly bare surface. They deposit a thin film that doesn't get wiped up, even after giving the surface a good polish. Global professional hand hygiene market to grow by $2Bn to 2028 The ‘Global Professional Hand Hygiene Market - Outlook & Forecast 2023-2028’ report, recently added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's offering, predicts that the market will reach a value of $8.18 billion by 2028 - from $6.18 billion in 2022, growing at a Compound Annual Growth Rate of approximately 4.8%. The report’s writers acknowledge that the global professional hand hygiene market is highly fragmented, due to the presence of many local and international industry players – and that competition among the major players is intense. Andy Gregory becomes EcoTech MD Coventry-based cleaning product manufacturer EcoTech (Europe) has announced the appointment of a new managing director to spearhead its ambitious growth plans. Taking the reins is Andy Gregory who steps up from the role of finance director which he has held since May of last year. One third of Geneva's eateries do not meet hygiene norms Of the 2,500 inspections carried out last year in Geneva's restaurants and other eating establishments, one in three did not comply with hygiene standards, according to swissinfo.ch. The platform also says that serious cases are on the increase, due to dirtiness, storage problems or misleading labelling, and that every year, serious cases requiring closure are detected - more than the situation highlighted four years ago. Mould meets its Waterloo! HG urges 'Get It Right the 1st Time' at first roadshow Ed: OK so the product may be aimed at households, but bearing in mind the publicity this clever campaign will get, along with the fact that it will help raise funds for homelessness charity Shelter, we just had to share it… HG has launched its HG mould remover 'Get It Right the 1st Time' roadshow, with experts on hand to offer everyone advice on how to prevent and treat mould in their homes at London Waterloo Railway Station, today. Floor cleaning challenge, met sensibly, secures Austrian spa's sustainability certification Austria’s Alpentherme Gastein Spa has been awarded sustainability certification by flooring company Bona, in recognition of the CO2 and energy saved thanks to clever measures taken when effective cleaning and maintenance became challenging. The surface of the 20-year-old linoleum had begun to develop hairline cracks allowing moisture and bacteria to penetrate, and as the surface became dull and stained, cleaning agents became ineffective. Waste expert preps Welsh customers for seismic shift in recycling regs From April 6th all workplaces across Wales must sort and separate all waste - including paper and card, food, glass, metal, plastic and unsold textiles - before collection, or face strict financial penalties. As Wales is currently third in the world for recycling household waste, the Welsh Government is determined to repeat that success on the commercial side. The new legislation will impact all businesses across the country, but according to ASH Waste Services, very few are even aware of the rules and the fines they'll receive if they don't comply. Veolia secures deal to manage Birmingham recycling and waste until 2034 Veolia has won the contract to run Birmingham's household recycling and refuse treatment solutions for the next 10 years. The deal means the company will operate the energy recovery facility, the city's household recycling centres (HRCs) and three waste transfer stations. The contract, which started on January 17th and runs until 2034, will see Veolia look to achieve a 70% recycling rate at the city HRCs by the end of the contract.
