Because the event was such a success, this year it promises to be bigger and better than ever, with almost 100 exhibitors signed up and a full and varied conference programme. Changes to marine litter composition includes 'dramatic' reduction in plastic bags, finds research Some 25 years of research from the Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas) has revealed changes in the composition of marine plastic litter, finding a decrease in the number of plastic bags found on the UK's seabed and suggesting that efforts may be able to tackle the marine litter challenge. Despite the reduction in the number of plastic bags recorded in an analysis of scientific surveys, the overall amount of litter has been maintained by an increasing amount of other plastic items, including fishing debris. SOCMA: Proposed China tariffs to impact cleaning chemicals manufacture The Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates (SOCMA), whose members play an indispensable role in the global chemical supply chain, has today responded to an announcement by China that it plans to impose tariffs on billions of dollars in US exports, including chemicals, in retaliation to the recently proposed US tariffs on Chinese aluminum, steel and other products. Jennifer Abril, SOCMA president and CEO, issued the following statement: Keeping the Great British Spring Clean sustainable RPC bpi recycled products has partnered with the Great British Spring Clean as its sole supplier of 100% recycled plastic refuse sacks for this year's campaign. The environmental charity is hoping to inspire and mobilise over 500,000 volunteers across the UK to go out and help clean up their local areas. 250,000 blue branded refuse sacks have been exclusively manufactured from post-consumer retail packaging at RPC bpi recycled products' manufacturing site in Heanor, Derbyshire. RAS shares its in-depth knowledge with foreign professionals After a series of training sessions conducted from August to September last year, which received acclaim from the Ascendas-Singbridge (ASB) senior management, the Restroom Association (Singapore) was invited to the ASB Forum in New Delhi on 21st March to share similar information about design, maintenance and education with other ASB professionals from countries such as Australia, China and India. Risks around grey fleet and how to avoid them It can be a tricky topic where businesses are concerned... However, the grey fleet - which refers to any vehicle used for making a work-related journey, which is not owned or leased by the organisation itself - can be managed effectively when the right steps are taken. With 12 billion miles driven each year in grey fleet vehicles, it comes as no surprise that employers are paying out over five billion pounds a year in mileage claims and car allowances. With recent news suggesting that grey fleet drivers may be over-claiming on their mileage accounts, this adds up to a lot of extra costs for businesses across the country. The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association is in fact urging bosses to get to grips with the grey fleet by targeting a 50% reduction in mileage and costs by 2020. Summer dining may mean more kitchen extract fires, warns Swiftclean Two kitchen extract fires in one Saturday in London demonstrate the risks of not regularly cleaning kitchen extract systems in accordance with TR/19, especially in warmer weather, says specialist building services provider, Swiftclean Building Services. "We see this almost every year," warns Swiftclean managing director Gary Nicholls, commenting on fires on 15th July in Maiden lane, Covent Garden (which involved four fire engines and 21 firefighters) and Connaught Street in Bayswater, in which the extract systems of each restaurant were damaged from basement to first floor.
