Welcome to the
Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news Read by industry professionals in 163 countries worldwide! From the Kimberly-Clark Professional Golden Service Awards last Thursday, to the Cleaning & Support Services Innovations Showcase (sponsored by the Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers Association) taking place today, the UK cleaning industry is certainly celebrating its leading lights at the moment. ‘Golden Service’, as it has become affectionately known, is one of our longest-running and most highly-regarded Awards programmes, having started in 1991 before some of those whose work was being scrutinised by the judges this year, were even born. You can see the list of winners below and may I offer my hearty congratulations to each and every one of those involved in keeping the winning sites clean, as well as the individuals who’ve been recognised for their ‘stand-out’ efforts. The CSSA’s Innovations Showcase, which is in its launch year, is one that’s based on a novel concept – a Dragon’s Den-style selection process in which 24 shortlisted companies presented their innovations to a panel of industry experts – and although as far as I’m aware, the judges weren’t under pressure to consider investing thousands of pounds of their own money in any of the innovations that took their fancy, I understand that choosing the finalists was incredibly difficult. The process must also have been a lot of fun (and if you’re wondering why I say that, please visit Dragons_Den_(UK_TV_series) where you’ll find an excellent outline of what being in the Dragon’s Den involves). The eight shortlisted innovations are being presented to the industry-at-large today in London for a final vote and I look forward to learning which innovation has won, later on. I know from attending product launches and exhibitions, that it’s only when you’re speaking to those involved in the development of a new product or service, and see them presenting it with a passion, that it actually ‘comes alive’ and you can really understand its features and benefits and why they’re there. Because of this, I’m hoping that these new CSSA awards are considered successful enough that they will be held again in future, and that perhaps the Dragon’s Den presentations are thrown open to a wider audience, so more people can understand that the mechanics of - and the science behind our industry, are something to be admired.
