Welcome to the
Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news Read by industry professionals in 148 countries worldwide! CMS Berlin, the International Trade Fair for Cleaning Systems, Building Management and Services, opened its doors on Monday. It is expected to attract over 15,000 trade visitors from 60 countries over the week. The organisers tell us that all available space in the 24,700 square metre display area in Halls 1.2 to 4.2 and in the open-air grounds in front of the South Entrance to the Berlin Exhibition Grounds (Berlin ExpoCenter City) are occupied. The show doesn't finish until tomorrow evening, so if you can get here, do, as there's plenty to see and you won't be disappointed. The latest machinery, equipment and cleaning products are on show in the action areas devoted to 'Glass & Facade Cleaning' and 'Aerial Work Platforms' and in the special 'Groundcare' show. Also at this event, the International CMS Congress is making its debut. Under the heading 'Sustainable Competitiveness in the Cleaning Industry' the question is being dealt with in a global context by leading representatives of the worldwide cleaning industry. "CMS is an essential date in the cleaning industry's calendar," is how Ingrid Maass, Chief Operating Officer of Messe Berlin GmbH, describes the trade fair's strong position on the market. "Germany is the world's second largest market for commercial cleaning technology and chemicals," She argues. "Only the USA is larger. On its home market CMS provides a highly efficient marketing platform for presenting innovations, for leading decisionmakers to hold technical discussions and for establishing and maintaining business contacts. Another of the contributory factors to the standing of this event is the International CMS Congress, which is being introduced this year, and where discussions will focus on the subject of 'Sustainability'." Four million employees in the FM sector Facilities management covers the professional handling of secondary processes. These include those technical, infrastructural and commercial tasks which do not form part of the core business of an organisation but which do support it. The products, systems and processes required for infrastructural facilities management can be seen at CMS 2013. Collaboration between trade associations is aimed at specific target groups In addressing trade visitors from a wide range of industries at CMS 2013 Messe Berlin is focusing more closely on specific target groups. To achieve this, the CMS fair management has signed cooperation agreements with a number of associations, with the primary emphasis on cleaning, cleanliness and hygiene. The relevant partners are Berufsverband Hauswirtschaft, BVBG Bundesverband der Beschaffungsinstitutionen in der Gesundheitswirtschaft Deutschland e.V., DEHOGA Berlin - Deutscher Hotel- und Gaststättenverband e.V. and femak - Fachverband für Einkäufer, Materialwirtschaftler und Logistiker im Krankenhaus e.V. The activities offered include guided tours for housekeepers to papers in the supporting programme. CMS 2013 is organised by Messe Berlin GmbH. The following professional organisations are sponsors of the event: the Federal Cleaning Trades Association (BIV), Bonn, the VDMA Cleaning Systems Trade Association, Frankfurt/Main, and the Industrial Association for Hygiene and Surface Protection (IHO), Frankfurt/Main. At CMS 2013 the three sponsors are represented jointly on Stand 206 in Hall 3.2. Immediately ahead of the fair the associations made the following statements regarding the situation in the industry and the value of this year's CMS: Dieter Kuhnert, Head of the Board of the Federal Cleaning Trades Association, said: "With this year's fair the Federal Cleaning Trades Association is making every effort to continue the major successes of the last CMS, especially with regard to its growing international dimension. The congress on the subject of Sustainability, featuring prominent speakers from all over the world, including the EU Director General Daniel Calleja Crespo, illustrates the importance of the fair, of the entire industry and of the venue, Berlin, which is not confined within the borders of our own country. Markus Asch, Chairman of the Trade Association for Cleaning Systems in the VDMA: “CMS is taking place at a favourable time, because 2014 is expected to usher in a general economic transition. At the end of September manufacturers can position themselves successfully, thereby enabling them to be well placed to effectively meet this transition. "CMS is a fair featuring innovations, and has already established quite a reputation. The Purus Award is presented for innovations, acknowledging outstanding design and function, and for VDMA members this is an ideal opportunity to focus attention on their latest products. CMS Purus Awards: the winners - Kärcher 2013 Purus Awards finalists: This year there were five prize-winners in three categories. Three exhibitors were selected as winners in the Machinery category because their products were so good, it was impossible to choose one over the other two. Who said there was never anything new in cleaning! Alfred Kärcher GmbH & Co. KG - one of the three, received this highly sought-after award for its BR 35/12 C compact scrubber-drier. Vermop Salmon GmbH received the award in the Brand Communication category. Liquid Individual is a modular system that enables cleaning agents to be combined to meet individual requirements, from fragrance and colour to formulation, dosage, packaging and labelling. Eugen Gutmann GmbH won the Equipment category for the Gutmann Modular System. Its ability to provide an economical and lasting solution for equipping a machine with individual brushes, was the reason given by the judges for awarding this system the prize. "We all need to look at our resources," said the company's managing director Jurgen Belle. - Nilfisk division of Nilfisk-Advance GmbH Nilfisk division of Nilfisk-Advance GmbH, was one of the other winners in the Machinery category, for the VL500 75-2 EDF wet-dry vacuum cleaner, which has a dual filter system. This provides for user-friendly operation on both dry and wet surfaces without requiring the filters to be changed - a reason cited by the judging panel for Nilfisk's win. Sebo Stein & Co. GmbH was the final winner in the Machinery category. In the words of Dietmar Mühr, the features of the Sebo Professional D8 dry vacuum cleaner that impressed the panel most were the rotating suction tube, infinitely variable output control and the IEC connector for simplified operation.
