Pulire 2013

* visitors from a previous show are eager to get into the halls.jpg
Pulire is the largest professional cleaning industry trade show in Italy and it enables visitors to explore the latest developments in a complete range of machinery, chemical products, equipment and components for professional cleaning and hygiene and talk to those who know how to get the best out of them. Some 300 exhibitors have taken more than 16,000 m2 of display space, set out over four halls, so there really is an awful lot to see here.

As one would expect from an event promoted by AfidampFAB (The Italian Association of Professional Cleaning Equipment, Machines & Product Manufacturers) and organised by Afidamp Servizi, commercial and operative arm of AfidampFAB, in association with Verona Fiere, it is very well organised, well laid out and easy to navigate. Naturally, it is the only place in Italy to be right now if you have any interest at all in cleaning!

The organisers tell us that this event - the 21st in the series, is the culmination of their efforts to create a show that would give maximum exposure to the best of the Italian cleaning industry's offerings, as well as those of companies based in other countries. They have certainly succeeded. Pulire is now a leading exhibition in this sector and the ideal place to discover and discuss both new products and equipment and the latest market trends, whilst networking with like-minded industry colleagues from around the world.

This year saw the launch of Pulire 2.0, an 'interactive event' available on smartphones and tablets which has two applications: one for exhibitors and one for visitors. We understand that the entire catalogue is online with assigned QR codes, which will facilitate what has been described as a match-making system for managing appointment books and agendas as well as the real time monitoring of visitors arriving at the show, so interested parties will know when others have entered the halls and be able to make contact.

"In an increasingly more connected society, Pulire uses the newest technology so that the trade show does not end after the three days of the event. It is prepared ahead of time and survives after the doors close. Pulire 2.0 is a place of constant meeting, real and virtual, for an open, interactive exchange between supply and demand of professional cleaning," say the organisers.

It sounds like a great concept and we'll be able to tell you more once we've experienced it for ourselves.

Pulire 2013: We expected yesterday to be even busier than the opening day had been and we weren't wrong. There's a real 'buzz' around the show floor and everybody - exhibitors and visitors alike, seem happy. We hear that visitor numbers on the opening day though were more than 2,000 higher than they were in 2011 and we think it's going to be the same story tomorrow. Bearing in mind that we are in the middle of an incredibly long downturn, the organisers deserve to be congratulated for a job well done.

At a large cleaning show such as this, exhibitors must spend many hours plotting how to make their stand the one that visitors walk onto (rather than, perhaps, a competitor's stand a few paces along) as there is simply so much competition and a limited selection of type of product that can be marketed to this industry.

As John and I didn't have a strict schedule yesterday, we decided to wander up and down each aisle and visit the stands that simply caught our eye. This turned out to be a great idea as we discovered new products and some real innovation too. Sometimes it was a case of what we call cosmetics that attracted us - perhaps an unusual colour or design, while others it was a sign saying 'NEW' (yes it's as simple as that) but even when we examined products that had stood out cosmetically, we found features that were well worth having on a product or machine.

Here are some of the things that impressed us:

Isal

Isal.jpgSeeing the outside exhibition area at Pulire made me envious of a climate that facilitates the setting up of stands outside in the fresh air. Imagine that in Birmingham! It was clear as we looked around that this 360 Electrica from Isal Power Sweepers was Italian designed - it was so sleek and stylish. However, it has many other attributes as Leonardo Bernasconi explained:

Elsea

Elsea.jpgWhile I have to admit that I dragged John onto this stand because of the unusual pastel tones of the equipment, (well I am female...) we liked what we saw when we got there. Rino Fulvino told us what - apart from the colour - was new about this range, which is available globally.

Nettuno

Nettuno-T-small.jpgWe often meet up with the Nettuno team at these international shows but this time, rather than look for familiar faces, we were stopped in our tracks by an unusual piece of equipment. When we asked Francesca Fratus about it, she grinned and said: "Oh yes, we've just made a big investment in that!" When questioned further, she revealed that the purchase - an automatic filling machine - was so new that it hadn't even appeared at the factory yet; it had just been purchased a couple of days previously and delivered direct to the stand where it was quickly assembled. What better way to show your customers just what you're soon to be capable of!

Sirmac

Sirmac.jpgWe often see moulded pressure washers and we often see stainless steel ones but neither John nor I could recall seeing machines combining the two materials and certainly nothing looking quite as smart as the Sirmac machines.

Dr Sara Bagassi told us that this was for extra stability and strength in a machine which was designed to be more compact but quite a bit taller than traditional machines.

4CleanPro

Lime-green-machine.jpgWe were drawn to the 4CleanPro stand by a striking range of bright green machines and because several visitors were showing a close interest – always a good sign. We were particularly struck by the sleek lines of the Gaia compact scrubber drier which we could see is easy to manoeuvre - and since Patrick Vangestel and the team were explaining the machine’s attributes to some potential buyers, we thought we’d stop and listen.

Greyland triggers rapid washroom cleaning frenzy!

* Triple-Clean_Spray-and-Wipe.jpgWith the many different approaches to daily washroom cleaning available, including manual or using pretty expensive pieces of cleaning equipment, one conclusion is inescapable: it needs to be done fast and it needs to be effective.

And with the Greyland range of ready-to-use trigger spray cleaners, it gets to be both!

Teinnova

Duct2.jpgConsidering that industrial kitchens are equipped with exhaust systems designed to evacuate smoke and odours, the extracted vapours contain a high degree of fat that accumulates in the filters, hoods, ducts and extractors. The fat is highly flammable and is responsible for most fires in restaurants. Furthermore, dirty systems force the system’s fan to work that much harder, resulting in higher energy consumption and also generating bad smells as a result of inadequate ventilation.

Tecnica

Sebo-lookalike.jpgBeing in Europe it was odd to hear a machine’s width described in inches rather than metric values, but once Tecnica’s Stefano Vidoni explained that the equipment on his stand is popular in the US and UK, it made more sense.

The Tecnica HD18 carpet cleaning system is offered in widths of 14 and 18 inches. It comes with a high performance suction motor, an electronically protected belt brush drive and a multi level filtering system which comprises a double layer dust bag, engine protection double filter, external pre-filter and an H13 HEPA filter. It offers filtration to 99.97% at 0.3 micron.

QTS

QTS.jpgThe QTS stand display was stunning and John and I were fooled by the optical illusion that had been created, which made us think that the basins were real when really they were just a photograph. But it wasn’t just the illusion that drew us onto the stand… the dispensers were really, really fresh and unusual, as you can see from our photograph.

Coynco

Coynco.jpgSo often I've visited a service station and vacuumed the interior of my car, only to find that when I vacuum the mats that sit in the footwell, the grit and other debris springs from the rubber mouldings and undoes all my hard work.

I was delighted to see then, that one of Coynco's coin operated car valeting machines has a special section for these mats. It incorporates rotating brushes and the injection/extraction system typically used for cleaning carpets.

Cleanvac

Turkish-carpet.jpgWe took a photo of the UK's carpet cleaning guru Paul Pearce on an orange one of these at the UK cleaning show, but we hadn't expected to meet the Turkish manufacturer of the equipment at an Italian event.

The company's Murat Ongel talked us through some of the machines on display, explaining that it will take one worker with a manual rotary cleaning machine approximately 20 minutes to clean a six square metre carpet while it takes just five minutes with a computerised, fully automatic BRS machine, which uses steam at up to 170 degrees. You just have to take up the carpet, clean it and lay it back down on the floor again.

Wirbel / Ghibli

busy-Wirbel-stand.jpgWirbel/Ghibli's Gabriele Sidoti told us that the stand had been incredibly busy throughout the show and we noticed that there was plenty for everyone to see.
Indeed such was the impact of the range of equipment on display, that as we were leaving John and I saw a major global competitor taking photo's of some of the machines. If he didn't want to be seen, perhaps he should have covered up the compay's name and logo which was embroidered on the front of his shirt!

Paperdi

cardboard-chair.jpgIf there were to be a prize for the best stand, my vote would have to go to Italian converter Paperdi.

Although the company hadn't actually manufactured the stand (which was made completely from cardboard - from the displays and reception desk to the chairs and tables and stools) it didn't matter. It let visitors see that this was a disposables supplier and the stand simply drew people onto it, who were keen to see everything close up and discover whether the seats were comfortable or not and whether they would take their weight.

Chemspec Europe solving the insolvable

Many stains can be removed simply by the extraction of soiling material but others leave a dye stain in the fibres that cannot be removed. Often the only option in this case is to modify the colour of the stain until it becomes transparent.
