Welcome to the
Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news Read by industry professionals in 148 countries worldwide! When I was filming for the BBC some years ago, we chatted to members of the public about one of the predecessors of something we take for granted these days - toilet tissue. We showed them what the Ancient Romans used and the thought of having to share the sponge on a stick, which was simply rinsed with water (sometimes salted) between users, made everyone cringe. I learned about various other alternatives to toilet tissue and recalled when I was little that I'd even used the squares of torn up newspaper in my neighbour's outside lavatory (which I have to confess I preferred over the hard and shiny, non-absorbent Izal paper, which had 'now wash your hands please' printed on each sheet). Things have improved tremendously since I was a young girl and we're now blessed with soft tissue that offers a myriad of uses, which I won't mention here as I'll get myself into trouble with the manufacturers! But a wedding dress? All I can say is that I hope if the designer dares to wear it she picks a dry day to marry! You can find out more, further down the page... Yours, This Week's News
