Welcome to the
Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news Read by industry professionals in 148 countries worldwide! Regular readers of Cleanzine will be aware that last week John and I were out in Germany, covering the latest in the series of biennial cleaning exhibitions that have been being held at Messe Berlin for many years. So often people from the trade complain that there's 'never anything new in cleaning', but this show proved that there certainly is and that the industry is working hard to provide solutions to the world's cleaning problems with a close eye on everyone's limited budgets and the need to conserve the planet's diminishing resources whilst providing outstanding results. We're delighted to report that there was some real innovation with lots of thought put into sustainability and functional design - as you'll see from our rundown of some of the products below as well as in future issues of Cleanzine. Please get in touch either by emailing me or posting a comment on our Facebook page. www.facebook.com/Cleanzine Yours, This Week's News
CMS posts record exhibitor and visitor numbers ... confirming its role as a leading European event for this sector. The event had an even greater international dimension, with highly satisfied exhibitors and visitors keen to sing its praises. It left us all in an extremely positive mood as far as the industry's overall economic outlook is concerned. The organisers tell us that some 361 companies from 20 countries exhibited this year, compared with 354 exhibitors from 19 countries at the last event in 2011. Manufacturers of cleaning agents are placing an increasing emphasis on eco-labelled products made from renewable sources. Vegetable materials from eco-sustainable sources are replacing chemical agents more and more. Manufacturers and wholesalers are also taking into account the growing use of Smartphones and tablets; offering more and more apps that customers can make use of, to find out about offers, place orders or obtain advice on a product's use whenever and wherever needed.
Sustainability and web-based solutions are playing an increasingly important role in cleaning equipment manufacture. Exhibitors: expectations exceeded Questioned about the main objectives of their participation, exhibitors mentioned promoting their company and its image, maintaining existing business relationships and establishing new contacts with specific customer groups - such as members of the building cleaning trade, buyers and retailers. They were also aiming to showcase new products. They say that for the most part these aims were met. Although signing contracts was not their primary goal, more than 40% of exhibitors had achieved sales before the show ended. Trade visitors' statistics and feedback Trade visitors mainly represented the following sectors: services, the trade, industry, authorities, public institutions, wholesale and export. Some 85% of the overseas visitors were from Europe, while 15% came from all other parts of the world.
Encouragingly, there was a remarkable increase in the number of trade visitors acting in a decision-making capacity, 74% of whom were senior management executives, authorised signatories and heads of department ((compared with 63% in 2011). Some 69% of trade visitors said they have a significant influence on their companies' purchasing and procurement decisions. Machinery - subjected to practical tests Visitors showed keen interest in the display areas exhibiting glass/facade cleaning and aerial work platforms on the outdoor display site at the entrance to the halls. The special show demonstrating the maintenance of green areas and the machinery and equipment with which to do the work, was also well frequented. The event's sponsors - the Federal Cleaning Trades Association (BIV), the VDMA Cleaning Systems Trade Association and the Industrial Association for Hygiene & Surface Protection (IHO) - and the exhibitors, all seemed to be delighted with the show's outcome, as the comments below show: VoleoPro - a new versatile and compact trolley from Vileda Professional Patrick Schowalter showed us how Vileda Professional had really made every inch of space count in the new VoleoPro trolly - just one of the many launches on the stand. Making the most of every component and every cm of space… Valerie Comandre talked us through the attributes of the very nifty ARA 66/BM scrubber drier, being launched at the show as ‘the discovery for working while seated’. Tornado cleans up without water and without chemicals The aptly named new Tornado mobile jet system is based on a worldwide patented negative pressure jet principle. Designed as a mobile compact device, it is no bigger than a standard industrial vacuum cleaner, but the combination of units, which incorporate a jet cap and jet lance, a filtering cartridge and dust separation unit, as well as the container for the required granulates, creates a fast and efficient, negative pressure cleaning system which is ideal for removing graffiti etc. High density floor pads made almost entirely from waste melamine On the One-Step stand, John and I were treated to an in-depth explanation by Dr Wolfgang Rauwald of Charlott Produkte, on the benefits of using melamine in floor pads for walk-behind scrubber driers. Shown here, the high density Combo-Pads are made almost entirely from waste – they comprise almost 100% recycled material. They’re virtually unbreakable, not very absorbent and require no rinsing. DiBO’s power and reliability now also in a compact version DiBO used the show to launch the ECN-S compact industrial cold water high-pressure cleaner. “The intention was to build a little brother of the ECN-M and ECN-T range, complying with DiBO’s rigid quality standards but still available at an attractive price,” explained Bart Knol. Tomcat demonstrations attracting the crowds yet again… As with any show Tomcat demonstrations draw the crowds and CMS was no exception with Solingen-based agent Rebi GmbH in the hot-seat. In the foreground is the ride-on Tomcat GTX scrubber which is easy to use and can be quickly adapted to the job in hand thanks to the ease of equipping it with different brushes, rollers or pads. It’s not easy being green (but they do it anyway) The Werner & Mertz stand was hard to miss as it was so big and so green and so full of frogs (or Frosch, as the Germans put it). Alena Hill told us that the company is not only innovative in its products, but also when it comes to its packaging materials. Contractors love Omniflex as it does a lot for very little! As usual there was a crowd taking in the demonstrations on the Kaivac stand, every time we walked past. “It’s not surpising,” said Marc Ferguson. “The contractors love it as it does a lot for very little!” The show must go on (and it does at Messe Berlin!) John and I spent a most enjoyable evening partying on a packed Hako stand (now why don’t the UK exhibition halls stay open until gone midnight?) and in between songs from the live girl band who weren’t just singing but were playing instruments too, we could hear what appeared to be an equally jolly party from a nearby stand – actually it was clearly one of several... Abranopp - the revolutionary cleaning system for structured floors! Structured flooring is problematic in terms of cleaning and care in that the deeper zones of the structure cannot be optimally reached and cleaned using tried and tested conventional cleaning products such as super pads and cleaning brushes. All systems go for merger of Asset Skills, CSSA and FMA Asset Skills, the Cleaning & Support Services Association and the Facilities Management Association say that the three parties are now accelerating their plans to merge following calls from industry to provide greater rationalisation and better representation.
