Consumers disappointed with cleanliness and disinfection practices

* restaurant_version.jpgP&G Professional has this week revealed the results of a major European study into public attitudes and perceptions of cleanliness and disinfection standards in hospitality establishments and care homes in the UK, France and Germany.

In the first cross-sector look at cleanliness and disinfection practices across Europe this year, the survey uncovered the truth that there is a disconnect between what business owners are doing in terms of cleaning and disinfection practices and what consumers expect.

With numerous high profile incidents in the UK linked to virus outbreaks in top establishments, closing this gap has never been so critical - for businesses of all sizes.

The survey revealed that 93% of consumers expect businesses to do more to ensure their premises are germ-free and over 90% expect business operators to disinfect everyday as part of their daily cleaning routine. This is an overwhelming majority and raises the profile of an issue of which business owners may not have been aware. Greater regulation, reviews and ratings of hotels and restaurants have created a very different operating environment for professionals; one in which consumer opinion really matters.

* jayne_clark.jpg"Daily cleaning of a professional establishment is one thing but deploying a robust disinfection programme and using the right products to tackle bacteria like salmonella, MRSA or E.coli is quite another," comments Jayne Clark, P&G Professional Sales Director, UK and Ireland. "The startling results of our survey shows operators need to be in tune with their customers' needs - both in terms of delivering the cleaning and disinfection standards required but also ensuring they create a memorable experience for their guests. This is why we urge businesses to take action today by investing in high quality antibacterial solutions to eliminate the spread of germs and viruses and ensure consumers' expectations are fully met."

The survey also revealed that consumers are extremely cautious about cleaning and disinfection standards when eating out. Over 40% of people confessed to wiping their cutlery or crockery before they begin to eat in a restaurant and 20% of 18-34 year olds said they take their own bed linen or towels when staying in a hotel, guest house, hostel or B&B.

P&G Professional has a range of high quality antibacterial cleaning solutions to help operators keep up with disinfection standards in bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms and dining rooms and those wishing to learn more about how to 'keep the customer satisfied can sign up free to P&G Professional's online Academy, which is packed full of top tips, videos, and cleaning advice.
