Ryans raises the standard

* Pat-Ryan_CEO-Ryans.jpgEire-based venue and event cleaning specialist Ryans Cleaning has been internationally recognised for its commitment to event sustainability by obtaining the International Standards Organisation's highly renowned ISO 20121 Certification.

Developed for the London Olympics, the ISO 20121: Event Sustainability Management System standard, has been designed to help organisations in the events industry improve the sustainability of event-related products and services.

The new international standard makes Ryans one of only a handful of organisations in Europe to hold all four certificates. Others include ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, ISO14001 Environmental Management system and OHSAS 18001 for Occupational Health and Safety. This demonstrates that the company has robust policies and practices in all fields and is operating effectively.

"Over the past year we have invested a huge amount of time, resource and energy into attaining our goals and we are extremely proud to be the only organisation to hold all four dedicated standards of their type at the same time," explains Pat Ryan, CEO of Ryans Cleaning.

"Our clients can be confident that we have all processes in place necessary to provide the very highest service levels."

The new ISO standard is described as "being suitable for ensuring that events, ranging from local celebrations to mega events such as the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, leave behind a positive legacy."

The standard is relevant to all members of the event industry supply chain including organisers, event managers, stand builders, caterers and logistics suppliers.

ISO 20121 provides the framework for identifying the potentially negative social, economic and environmental impacts of events by removing or reducing them, and capitalising on more positive impacts through improved planning and processes.

Among the stakeholders who have provided input to the development of the standard are members of the sustainability team for the London Organising Committee of the Olympics and Paralympic Games.

Last year, Ryans Cleaning provided its services to a diverse range of headline events including the London Olympics, BT London Live, the Queen's Jubilee in Hyde Park and the British Formula 1 Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The company serves the requirements of fixed venues, international events, trade shows and exhibitions as well as commercial, office and industrial premises in the UK and Ireland, and is an accredited turnkey supplier of venue, event and corporate cleaning for diverse requirements of all types and size across the UK and Ireland.

This includes fixed venues such as football grounds, racecourses, concerts, festivals and major outdoor events as well as commercial, office and industrial cleaning carried out in compliance with all relevant health and safety, environmental and waste management legislation. The company provides the training, controls and resources necessary to ensure that all activities are conducted to the highest standards of quality in a safe, secure manner.
