New apprenticeships in facilities management launched

New apprenticeships have been launched to help strengthen the facilities management workforce.

The entry-level Facilities Services Apprenticeship, set at Level 2, offers employers a new route of recruiting 16 - 24 year olds into FM, while degree-level Facilities Management Apprenticeships have also been introduced at Levels 4 and 5.

"Because facilities management is a fairly new industry, young people don't yet tend to view the profession as a career option," says Sarah Bentley, Chief Executive of Asset Skills, the industry skills body for FM.

"The new Level 2 apprenticeship will help raise awareness of FM and open it up to new and younger groups, while the higher level apprenticeships can be used by individuals and companies as part of their staff development and talent management programmes."

The higher level apprenticeships were developed by the Government's higher apprenticeships fund and are available in England.

The Level 2 apprenticeship is available in England and Scotland and covers training such as:

Sustainability and environment
Customer Service
Health & Safety
Maintenance and minor repairs

"Facilities management already now has a full suite of apprenticeships at Levels 2, 3, 4 and 5," says Sarah. These will address a number of skills gaps and help ensure a stronger workforce for the future."
