Cleaner & Greener programme delivers 37% surge in community clean-up requests

* Cleaner-Greener.jpgResidents across Caerphilly County Borough in Wales are seeing the benefits of increased investment in the Cleaner & Greener Programme, with 290 requests now actioned.

The Programme focuses on a range of improvement works, including ward cleansing, weed removal, mechanical sweeping, route cleansing, vegetation clearance, gateway enhancements, sign cleaning and graffiti removal.

Since the start of the current programme year a total of 290 requests have been actioned, up an impressive 37% from the previous month. The latest figures reflect the Council's continued commitment to improving local communities and responding to issues raised by residents through their elected representatives.

During 2026/27 budget proposals councillors agreed to increase the Council's Cleaner & Greener budget by 50%, highlighting that improving cleanliness within communities was at the top of the list of issues raised by residents.

The increased budget has had a positive effect on the programme, with more than 640 requests submitted by councillors across the Borough this year, demonstrating strong engagement from councillors working on behalf of their communities.

"Residents told us they wanted to see their communities cleaned up, so we have directed more resources into the Cleaner & Greener Programme," reports Cllr Amanda McConnell, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Green Spaces and Highways.

"This big increase in actioned requests demonstrates action being taken. We want to do more, so I am encouraging elected members to keep submitting areas that would benefit from improvement.

Throughout the next month Cleaner & Greener teams will be in locations throughout Bargoed, Newbridge, Hengoed, Crumlin, Ystrad Mynach, Pontllanfraith, and St Cattwg
