October 20th - Clean Hospitals Day 2026: ‘Empowerment’

* Clean-Hospitals-Day-Bugly.jpgTaking place on October 20th, Clean Hospitals Day 2026 will be centred on the theme of ‘Empowerment’ - highlighting the importance of empowering healthcare professionals and their teams, to strengthen healthcare environmental hygiene and create safer healthcare environments for all.

To help celebrate and spread the word, the Geneva-based Clean Hospitals Organisation has prepared a Clean Hospitals Day 2026 Promotional Toolkit, which includes ready-to-use materials to support communications and social media activities.

“We encourage you to share the Clean Hospitals Day campaign with your networks and colleagues, use the promotional materials across your social media channels and websites, and help raise awareness of the importance of healthcare environmental hygiene,” says Dr Alexandra Peters, University of Geneva Institute of Global Health, Faculty of Medicine, Geneva – and president of the Clean Hospitals organisation. “We also encourage you to engage your local networks and organisations and invite them to participate in this year’s campaign.”

The Toolkit, which is freely available to download from https://cleanhospitals.com/promotional-toolkit-2026 , includes posters translated into 22 languages, a social media photo frame, sign & share selfie boards, social media tiles, the Clean Hospitals poster maker and a screensaver – along with ‘Bugly’ - the Clean Hospitals Day Mascot.

“We would love to see how you are celebrating Clean Hospitals Day around the world!
Please feel free to tag Clean Hospitals in your social media posts and share your activities with us.”

Clean Hospitals is an international Centre of Excellence in Public Health.
It acts for a high quality of care and optimal protection and safety of patients and hospital staff, and seeks to harness the collective strengths of industry, academia, hospitals, governmental bodies and key stakeholders to collaborate across disciplines and interest groups. It aims to use the knowledge and momentum generated by its research and working groups to raise industry standards and increase the visibility of the hospital environment in patient care.

The purpose of the Clean Hospitals Day initiative is to increase patient safety and bring international attention to the need for an increased focus on hospital environmental hygiene.

Improvements in hospital environmental hygiene will benefit public health by lowering rates of healthcare-associated infections, reducing antimicrobial resistance, and protecting hospital staff as well as the larger environment.
