MSD Risk-Reduction Through Design Awards 2026 - open for nominations
For a decade, the Health & Safety Executive’s ‘Risk-Reduction Through Design Awards’ have highlighted UK employers who have made smart, practical design changes to reduce the risks of musculoskeletal disorders.
These conditions affect the back, joints and limbs, and are a leading cause of work-related ill health, contributing to over 6.6 million lost working days each year in Great Britain.
This year, the HSE is spotlighting workplaces that have:
* minimised lifting, pushing or pulling
* improved posture during tasks
* removed manual handling through thoughtful design
If your organisation has introduced such improvements, you could be recognised in one of two categories:
* Best Overall MSD Risk Reduction
* SME Recognition Award (for businesses with fewer than 250 employees)
Entries close on 31st January 2026. Last year’s winner, Ainscough Crane Hire, devised a way to eliminate the need for plant fitters to manually handle heavy brake and wheel hub assemblies for inspection and maintenance tasks on cranes. Maintenance and engineering colleagues collaborated to design a tool set that would fit a standard floor crane to support the weight of the components as they were being removed or fitted. The tool and crane set now eliminates the need to manually handle the heavy components while adopting awkward postures when removing or fitting the components to the crane.
