ISSA Pulire: another great show with lots to celebrate

* ISSA-PULIRE-Finalists-2025.jpegThe recently held 27th edition of ISSA Pulire was a huge success, boasting 421 exhibitors - 52 more than in 2023 and 169 ‘first timers’ - reflecting the growing interest and dynamism within the sector.

There were 21,020 visits from delegates from 101 countries, 28% of whom came from overseas. The majority of international participants were from Europe (76%), followed by Asia (11%), America (5%) and Africa (4%). Contributing to this success was the presence of international buyer delegations, organised in collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency - from Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa.

"I'm very pleased with the results of this edition," says Toni D'Andrea, CEO of ISSA Pulire Network. "The extraordinary turnout and the quality of both exhibitors and visitors show how the industry is constantly evolving, and how the trade fair continues to be a central event on the international stage. These figures confirm ISSA Pulire's role as a global platform for innovation, networking and professional development, integrating technology, sustainability and education."

There was also great enthusiasm for the special initiatives which showcased the technological and design excellence that defines the industry. These included the ‘Product of the Year ISSA Pulire 2025’ Award - presented to I-Walk by I-Team, (selected for its compact and functional design, ease of use and strong focus on sustainability - providing a tangible contribution to the smart transformation of cleaning operations) and ‘The People's Choice Mention’, voted by attendees, (awarded to Hy-genio by Hygenia, a complete cleaning system designed to optimise operations in professional environments while reducing waste, downtime and operator risk.

The selection was made by an international jury composed of: Helge Alt (president, Puhastusekspert); Joaquín Montesinos (managing director, Avanti Blue); Adonai Arruda (president, Facop); Toni D'Andrea (CEO, ISSA Pulire Network).

* Hackathon-1.jpegAnother highlight was the Hackathon… Organised by the ISSA Pulire Network in collaboration with FDS, the competition brought together eight multi-disciplinary teams of brilliant university students who competed on the theme of smart and sustainable cleaning management for two newly imagined Milan stadiums of the year 2035-cutting- edge, multifunctional hubs. This event is part of ISSA Pulire Network's ongoing commitment to promoting innovation, education, and dialogue between industry, institutions and the next generation.

The winner was I-Team, sponsored by the I-Team company, which presented the most compelling, innovative, and technologically advanced solution to the challenge outlined in the problem statement: ensuring optimal maintenance of two 300,000sq.m facilities, operating 16 hours a day, and managed by only 60 staff members, by integrating AI, IoT, robotics and risk monitoring tools. The three students are enrolled in the Industrial Automation Engineering department at the University of Brescia. The project impressed the jury, (composed of Cesare Grassi - chief operating officer of the National School Services Foundation, Peter Hug - managing director of VDMA, Giulio Sciortino - technician at the Italian Institute of Technology), with its ability to leverage data from IoT devices to optimise real-time cleaning, employ autonomous robots for repetitive tasks, and use digital tools to enhance human expertise and improve risk management in high-traffic environments.

Second place went to the Idrobase ISSA Team, composed of four students from the Artificial Intelligence and Mathematics & AI programs at the University of Milano - Bicocca, University of Milan (Statale), and University of Pavia.

Opening the Hackathon award ceremony was Silvia Scurati, vice president of the IV Permanent Commission - Productive Activities, Education, Training & Employment of the Lombardy Region, who expressed her congratulations to all the students and Lombard universities participating in the competition.

"The ISSA PULIRE 2025 Hackathon has been a laboratory of ideas, demonstrating how artificial intelligence can tangibly improve the way we live and work," she said.
