JOHN STINTON: May 1943 - March 2025
John Austen and I were really saddened to learn last week that John Stinton, ex-secretary of the British Cleaning Council, ex-director of BCCE (which runs the UK cleaning shows) and ex-Liveryman of The Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners, passed away on 14th March.
The WCEC reports that his funeral took place on 29th April at St Johns the Baptist Church in Wolverley near Kidderminster and that the service was attended by more than 200 people, including the current Master and other members of the Company.
"John was widely admired for his character, generosity, and professionalism," it says. "He played a key role in the British Cleaning Council, serving for many years as part of its Secretariat. He became a Freeman of the City in 2005 and a Liveryman in 2006."
I would add that John was always a joy to be around. He had a genuinely warm and welcoming smile, a great sense of humour and thoughtful, caring and interesting conversation - all of which helped make those around him feel comfortable and relaxed, (particularly helpful for those new to our industry who may have felt a little overwhelmed facing their first big function!). He was always one of our favourites and thus one who John Austen and I have missed seeing around in recent years.
