September's Mash for Cash winner announced
September's winner of Caerphilly County Borough Council's Mash for Cash Campaign - which sees houses within the Borough monitored with one food recycling participant chosen at random each month to win £500 - has been announced as Mrs Claire Jones from Penyrheol.
The initiative, which is supported by the business sector, was launched in March 2022 with the goal of increasing food waste recycling participation. Residents of Wales' Caerphilly County Borough, who place their food waste recycling caddy outside for collection, are all eligible to win the cash prize.
The 80,000 households are currently provided with a weekly food waste collection service. Following the anaerobic digestion process, the waste is turned into renewable energy along with other products.
"Congratulations to Mrs Claire Jones, the latest winner of the Mash for Cash food waste recycling initiative," says Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Waste, Leisure & Green spaces.
"I would like to thank all those residents who are participating in the food waste recycling caddy service. The food waste recycling collection service is provided weekly and is converted into valuable products (compost and fertiliser) as well as contributing renewable energy to the National Grid.
"Food waste recycling is a key part of the Authority's commitment to delivering a cleaner greener environment and helping Wales become the Number One nation in recycling."
