Food Waste Action Week 2024 - what did we achieve?

* Food-Waste-Action-Week-2024.jpgBack in March, Love Food Hate Waste ran WRAP’s (the UK’s Waste & Resources Action Programme) annual Food Waste Action Week campaign, motivating citizens to reduce food wasted in their homes.

This year, the focus was on raising awareness of the benefits of buying loose fruit and veg - as we know this could reduce food waste by up to 60,000 tonnes a year.

There was an incredible week of action, with celebrity ambassador, Gino D'Acampo, garnering huge media attention. School children were learning about it in class and taking the message home to parents across the UK; and the campaign’s partners across the board kept social media buzzing with activity.

Other highlights include:

* 200+ pieces of media coverage
* 18% of UK citizens heard or saw something about Food Waste Action Week, and 55% said they did something differently as a result.
* From the school activity, 79% of parents surveyed say they are likely to buy more fruit and veg loose in the future
* 221 local authorities shared content on social media
