RAS welcomes its new executive director

* RAS-executive-director.jpgSandeep Khanna, the incoming executive director of the Restroom Association Singapore, boasts some great credentials… For example he was a Board Member at the World Toilet Organisation for more than three years where he helped create the branding and marketing strategy and also connected the WTO with potential corporate sponsors.

Known for focussing on creating value, fostering rich connections and delivering impact, Sandeep brings to the role more than three decades of rich cross-functional and cross-cultural experience across Asia. He has built brands, businesses and leaders across companies such BBDO, Nokia, LG, Facebook and Grab – and, having lived in India, Vietnam, the Philippines and Singapore, he boasts a unique pan-Asian perspective that positions him as a trusted leader across emerging markets.

In addition, he has been involved in the startup ecosystem, mentoring many leaders to help them build sustainable businesses. He has a natural positive and can-do attitude and approaches every challenge with enthusiasm and a very hands-on work ethic.

Sandeep succeeds Emerson Hee who joined the RAS in 2008 and successfully helmed the Association through multiple promotions - from an executive position to senior management - over the period of 16 years.

During his stint, strong partnerships were forged with organisations from the people, private and public sectors. These include the Building Construction Authority, National Environment Agency and PUB from the public sector - the key Government agencies overseeing certain aspects of the public toilets in Singapore.

Toilet owners and smart product partners from private sectors such as Sentosa, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands and many other shopping centres have actively participated in the Happy Toilet Programme, which he started in 2009, for more than 10 years. Organisations from the people sector such as the Public Hygiene Council continues to support RAS in the judging of its annual LOO Awards.

Other milestones achieved under Emerson’s leadership include the LOO Campaign @ Hawker Centres, Guide to Better Public Toilet Design and Maintenance, Guide to Better Preschool Toilet Design, Maintenance and Education, hygiene checklists for preschools, on-site training programme on restroom cleaning and so forth.

RAS also successfully rebranded its corporate image as a one-stop restroom hub which attracted DBS Bank, Asia's largest Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) Link REIT and a Chinese MNC to approach RAS for training.

Emerson also conducted training and talks overseas, in places such as China, India, Malaysia and the US.
