What concerns me nowadays is the realisation that people are sometimes not how they appear to be... that ordinary men might camouflage themselves as women and use the 'open house' set-up as the perfect space in which to launch a physical attack on a woman who believes herself to be safe.
Last week I also voiced my concerns about endangering the safety of some gender-fluid individuals who'd be vulnerable if forced to share facilities with 'ordinary' men. I'm worried about all types of vulnerable people here, not just women.
John Austen's worried about the encroachment upon women's rights... women who want a woman's space to remain a woman's space - and I get that. He also wants to protect vulnerable females from potential predators and, like me, questions the motive behind some 'fully intact' men who dress up as women and want to access women's toilets. It may be that 99% have their hearts in the right places but what about those who don't?
As someone who's proud to have served on the council of the British Toilet Association when it was first set up, the need for plentiful, accessible, clean, hygienic, well-stocked and SAFE public toilets for all, is incredibly important to me. All the issues preventing this from happening, need to be discussed openly and a solution found. I know it's going to be difficult but it needs to be done.
