RAS, the Restroom Association of Singapore, used the country’s recent 14th LOO (Let's Observe Ourselves) Awards to launch the fifth edition of ‘A Guide to Better Public Toilet Design & Maintenance’.

Providing qualified people such as engineers, architects and environmental & facilities management professionals with information about good design, maintenance and user education, the guide also features products deemed to be effective against viruses and which can be used to provide a cleaner and safer restroom environment for everyone.
The first edition of the guide was published in 1999 by the then Ministry of the Environment. The second edition was published in 2002, while the third was published and launched in 2013 by then Second Minister for the Environment & Water Resources Grace Fu. The fourth edition was launched in 2018 by then Senior Minister of State for the Environment & Water Resources.
The key changes in this latest edition are the NEA's revised Code of Practice on Environmental Health on public toilet requirements which took effect last March, certification of smart restroom products under the SGBC's Singapore Green Building Product Certification Scheme and products capable of eliminating viruses such as Covid-19.
