New robot does more than just clean beaches
Ocean clean-up specialist 4ocean has teamed up with marina manufacturer Poralu to produce a beach cleaning robot with a difference.
Almost silent, a fraction of the size and lighter in weight than normal beach cleaning machinery, it was built with care for the environment and wildlife in mind and is 100% electric, running on 2 x 12-volt batteries assisted by solar power to charge the batteries and operate the accessories - so no harmful emissions to worry about.
Offering turn-on-the-spot precision, the remote-controlled robot can clean areas up to 3,000sq.m/hr, sifting sand up to 10cm deep. It recovers trash as small as 1sq.cm, thanks to its sand sifting mechanism which ploughs through sand, putting it onto a vibrating screen that sifts sand through, moving any rubbish onto the hopper.
The sand shifter can easily be uncoupled, allowing the accessories to be fitted so the robot can be put to other uses, for example for raking seaweed, removing algae, levelling sand etc. Its trailer attachment, which boasts a 900lb towing capacity, means it can also be used to shift beach furniture and other items.
