Apprenticeship schemes flourish at phs

* Apprenticeships-phs.jpgMore than 150 people have signed up to boost their skills as part of the apprenticeship programmes offered by facilities services provider phs Group.

The apprenticeship programmes are designed to nurture talent, upskill individuals within the company and boost career progression. Over 120 employees have enrolled in a phs apprenticeship over the last 12 months, with 30 more already scheduled to start in 2021.

The apprenticeship programmes develop employees to become more skilled in their current role or prepare them for their next opportunity, combining hands-on work with classroom learning and leading to nationally recognised external qualifications. Any employee can apply for a phs apprenticeship whether they are looking to develop their expertise in their current role or learn new skills in the business.

Having completed an apprenticeship, phs regional sales manager Ty Alboraiki, (pictured) has added the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) qualification in Management and Leadership (Level 3) to his CV. He has since been promoted to the role of national sales manager, extending his responsibilities from leading the northern sales team to that of the whole of the UK.

"I am always keen on learning, so when I was presented with this opportunity it didn't take me long to decide that this was a meaningful investment of my time and I wasn't disappointed,” he says. “I particularly liked that I was immediately able to use knowledge attained during the course in my day-to day-job.

“I know that I will have plenty more opportunities at phs to utilise the knowledge acquired during the course and I now feel better equipped to take on more responsibilities and more challenging projects. I certainly feel the apprenticeship helped progress my career at phs. Learning and development are important to keep your mind fresh and contributes to keeping phs abreast of the competition."

Across phs Group, 3,000 employees provide a range of services looking after more than 300,000 locations and servicing the needs of more than 100 million people. This includes hygiene, waste disposal, air purification, horticulture and Christmas tree design as well as crate rental, recycling services, laundry services, compliance and consumables.

To support the company's services, phs apprenticeships range across the business from customer services, IT and business administration to, laundry, electrics, sales, team leadership and management.

David Taylor-Smith, chief executive officer of phs Group, says: "Our employees are the foundation of phs, delivering excellent customer service which is the bedrock of our success. That's why it's so important to invest in our employees to ensure they are fully trained and have a clear route to progress within the company.

“Our apprenticeship schemes have been a huge success and we are excited about the benefits they bring to our employees and to our business. We recognise and value the enormous talent and potential within our workforce and we hope these schemes will encourage staff to go on and achieve great things."
