Challenge: Build Covid-19 Mass Test Centre. Deadline: 11 days. Achieved: 10 days

* CKG-Goldsmiths.jpgWhen University of London, Goldsmiths College, famed for its creative departments (former graduates include Britain's richest living artist Damien Hirst, and film director Sir Steven McQueen), needed to erect a Covid-19 Mass Test Centre quickly in time for students return, it naturally turned to its FM company CK Facilities Management for help and advice.

Fortunately, NHS approved supplier CK Facilities Management's existing in-house resources comprise CK Group Services for building works, City & Kent Cleaning for daily cleaning, deep cleans and sanitising, as well as CK Consumables for every type of cleaning and hygiene material supplies, so it was readily able to accommodate the brief.

* Goldsmiths-Great-Hall.jpgRequired to construct 28 Covid-19 testing bays in 11 days (a job that would normally take around 3 weeks), CK Group Services completed the project with a day to spare by taking only 10 days.

The time deadline was rather complicated by the fact that the Mass Test Centre was to be located in the Great Hall of the Grade 2 listed building. Building damage was also required to be minimised.

The rapid turnaround and minimal impact upon the fabric of the building was achieved by constructing the test bay units in a modular format, with some works being carried out off-site in CK Group's own workshops * Goldsmiths-fitted.jpgin order to fast-track construction.

Not only was the hand over to the Covid-19 testing teams on time - it was also on budget!

Jeanette Batten, Director of Estates and Facilities at Goldsmiths, University of London, congratulated CK Group for stepping up to the challenge of completing the project on time and on budget, commenting:

"The team were great in their approach and attitude, and the finish and quality of the build is superb. The facility does look very impressive within the Great Hall.

"Our first afternoon of testing went well and those who have been through went through with ease and have given us positive feedback. In addition, the clinical team has said this is one of the best planned and best organised sites they have seen or worked in."
