PUBLIC TOILET FORUM:- We have Mail: Paul Wonnacott
Hi Jan
I hope this mail finds you well?
Following your lead article last week, I personally wrote to Susan Cunningham commending her on the continued efforts she is making, as well as offering whatever help and assistance our organisation can provide, in promoting her quest for Toilet Hygiene Standards.
I just wanted to suggest something that I think is extremely relevant and important.
Personally, I do not think that that any scheme implemented by local governments under a 'Toilet Hygiene Rating Scheme' should be limited to public toilets. Any 'away from home' washroom in any licensed premises should also be subject to the same standards. Every survey I know of that has been conducted by the hospitality industry has shown that it is not the standards of the food or drink, not the ambience of the place or quality of the furniture but the standard of the washrooms, that most influences the decision as to whether to return to that establishment.
If owners and operators knew that they are legally obliged to display a Toilet Hygiene Standard certificate or badge on their premises, fully cognisant that their patrons will measure them by this rating, then this will, I am certain, improve their standards of hygiene generally!
Kind regards,
