Are washroom cleaners valued?

The Washroom Cleaner of the Year Awards are a unique and integral part of Loo of the Year Awards but relate specifically to the cleaning staff that look after facilities, rather than the washrooms themselves.

Mike Bone, Loo of the Year Awards Managing Director explains: "While the range of gradings and National and UK/Ireland Loo of the Year Awards and Trophies provide adequate recognition for the loos and their providers, it is the people who look after each facility - be they individual full-time attendants, in-house cleaning teams or external cleaning contractors, who also deserve recognition."

All attendants and/or cleaning staff employed by the entrant and working at the entry location will automatically be entered for a Washroom Cleaner of the Year Award. Judging is carried out at the same time as the Loo of the Year Awards inspection and any cleaning staff seen at the time of the unannounced visit are deemed to represent the whole cleaning team.

There are three separate National Washroom Cleaner of the Year Awards for cleaners based in England, Scotland, Wales and the Ireland. These are; the Individual Washroom Cleaner (or individual washroom cleaning team) at one entry location, In-house Cleaning Team based in multiple entry locations and the External Contractor Cleaning Team Multiple Entries National Awards. A UK/Ireland Trophy winner is selected from the National Award winners of each of the three National Washroom Cleaner of the Year Awards.

The awards are presented to the cleaner(s) and cleaning teams who, in the opinion of the judges, is/are performing a high quality ‘ambassadorial’ role for the washroom provider, in terms of cleaning, appearance, attitude, commitment and efficiency. Presentations are made as a part of the annual Loo of the Year Awards event and the winning cleaners enjoy the experience of not only being recognised for their achievement but also enjoy the hospitality and top class entertainment normally reserved for their managers or directors at such events.

The next Loo of the Year Awards Event is on Friday 4th December and washroom providers, cleaning and FM companies can enter the 2020 Loo of the Year Awards now. Full entry details are on the Awards website.
