OCS continues to roll out mental health training

* OCS-mental-health-training.jpgMore than 500 members of the OCS workforce have taken part in Mental Health First Aider and Mental Health Champion training since OCS launched the scheme last year.

The Mental Health Champions course was devised by HR & Training managers Juraj Kecso and Dharminder Singh. As MHFA England-qualified instructors, they have trained nearly 300 people across the UK and Ireland between them - on top of their day jobs.

Dharminder says: "Hopefully we can get people to talk about mental health and, ultimately, reduce some of the absenteeism across the business, because it gives us the opportunity to be proactive and get that person the help they need at the very beginning. That's a crucial part of mental health."

Recognising that the two-day first aider course was less accessible for frontline operatives, Dharminder and Juraj devised the bespoke one-day champions course to reach a wider audience.

For their efforts, they were presented with the Wellbeing Award at the OCS Awards earlier this month. Donna Vizzini, who nominated them for the award, explains: "They have become experts in their field and their commitment to employee wellbeing is second to none."
