Mitie celebrates 70th anniversary of the NHS

* Mitie-NHS-70th.jpgMitie's 435 NHS based employees recently celebrated their combined 6,650 years of service for the UK's biggest employer, to mark the National Health Service's 70th birthday.

In honour of the milestone, in a week of celebrations, Mitie teams took part in a range of activities across NHS sites which included hosting celebratory tea parties for NHS staff and patients and wearing anniversary uniforms.

Mitie staff at St Georges Hospital staff participated in a special event at Hyde Park, creating a 'human-70' photographed from the air by drone whilst Mitie management joined ward hosts in hospitals in which it operates across the UK, for the afternoon beverage round, offering patients over 6,000 gingerbread cookies specially made by Royal Cornwall Foods for the occasion.

The team also took the opportunity to celebrate the long service of 435 Mitie colleagues working across NHS contracts, which equates to a total of 6,650 years of service in the NHS - the longest of which is over 30 years.

Mitie is responsible for facilities management at a number of NHS sites, including cleaning, portering, catering and helpdesk services. Mitie has also added two next-generation robo-cleaners to the cleaning teams working at West Herfordshire Hospital NHS Trust and Hinchingbrook Hospital. These cleaners, known as Moptimus Prime, use a mapping system to guide them around the hospital, completing pre-programmed cleaning duties and freeing up staff to focus on more complex tasks.

"It was brilliant to see our teams celebrate this momentous occasion for our national health service, along with the incredible long service our colleagues have given to the NHS," says Jacinto Jesus, Mitie's director of healthcare.

"I'd like to thank everyone who was involved in the organisation of the events - it was a very proud day for us all."
