There's much talk about the UK Government reinstating weekly bin collections but I reckon that this will be a mistake - well certainly for those councils that provide secure wheelie bins, as opposed to plastic refuse sacks that are so easily ripped open by animals.

Over the two years or so that my non-food waste has been collected fortnightly, I have managed perfectly well - although it does require extra care when it comes to choosing what needs to go into which bin...

You're actually forced to recycle as the general waste bin won't have enough space in it unless you do. The one bin that seems to get most full is that which takes empty packaging in the form of plastics and cardboards - and it bothers me that if weekly collections were reinstated people might be less diligent about recycling these items, as it would be easier to pop them in with the general waste instead of trying to fit them into the correct recycling bin.
An item in 'This Week's News' shows just why we should embrace recycling and greener fuels with open arms...

A waste recycling company has opened a compressed natural gas fuelling station in Camden and this clean-burning, environmentally-friendly fuel is being sold to commercial fleets as well as individuals with CNG-equipped vehicles, at prices typically one-third below the cost of gasoline (petrol) and diesel.

There are many benefits to the environment and with petrol prices hovering around £1.38/litre in the UK and food waste now being easily converted into fuel, the news that we might one day be able to run our vehicles cleanly and inexpensively on the stuff, just adds to the incentive to recycle more, rather than less, doesn't it?
