Don't use the cups!

Visitors to one of Beijing's hotels have been warned not to drink from the tea cups in the bedrooms, following a horrifying discovery by one guest about the way they are cleaned...

The South China Morning Post reported that the whistleblower made his grim discovery while dropping off his luggage in his room, which was still being cleaned after the departure of the previous guest, when he encountered the cleaning lady scrubbing the toilet bowl. He watched her finish this task before placing the brush she had been using, in the washbasin where two tea cups were being soaked in a blue solution.

He noticed a bottle of toilet detergent beside the basin and asked the cleaner why she was using the toilet brush to clean the cups. He says she did not answer so he reported her to the hotel receptionist, who responded that the cleaner would of course rinse the cups off after they had been washed!

The guest shared his experience on social media and this led to the firing of the cleaner who had started the job in February and her housekeeping manager for not providing the correct supervision.

Cleanzine understands that the manager defended the cleaner's actions, saying that she had used the toilet cleaning detergent because the tea stains on the cups could not be removed by ordinary detergent. No mention was made of the use of the toilet brush...
