Offering more than just a pint... pub wins award for best accessible loos in the country
JD Wetherspoon's showcase Velvet Coaster on Blackpool seafront opened this year as the country's biggest public house. It was also the first in the country to include a Changing Places assisted, accessible toilet, for people who need the help of a carer.
The venue has now added another accolade to its tally, winning the 2015 Loo of the Year Trophy for the best Changing Places facility across the UK and Ireland.
The Changing Places Trophy, sponsored by Clos-o-Mat, is the top award available for assisted, accessible facilities in the awards for away-from-home toilets. In addition to the Trophy, Wetherspoon also won the best accessible toilet award (Scotland), the best pub & bar toilet award in each of England, Scotland, Ireland & Wales, and the national award in the individual category. Co-incidentally, Clos-o-Mat supplied and installed the equipment required to create the Changing Places toilet at Velvet Coaster.
"Wetherspoon has a reputation for setting the standard for toilets in the hospitality sector," observes Loo of the Year Awards managing director Mike Bone. "Over 92% of its pubs entered in the Awards achieved a platinum rating."
The Loo of the Year Awards have been running for almost 30 years, and are the 'Oscars' of the away-from-home hygiene industry. Clos-o-Mat, Britain's leading provider of Changing Places toilet facilities, has sponsored the sector-specific award since its inauguration five years ago.
Clos-o-Mat's ability to deliver design advice, project management, supply, installation, commissioning and maintenance across the ambit of accessible toileting equipment means it is uniquely provide a reliable, single source for the whole process. Further, its website www.clos-o-mat.com, is an essential reference point for anyone considering installing a Changing Places toilet, offering white papers, 2D and 3D CAD blocks, standard layouts, and video.
Changing Places toilets offer more space than conventional wheelchair-accessible facilities, and include additional equipment, of a hoist, adult-sized changing bench and privacy screen, alongside a toilet and washbasin.
