Welcome to the
Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news Read by industry professionals in 148 countries worldwide! The press releases sent to me by companies exhibiting at ISSA/Interclean next month have been trickling in over recent weeks but the pace is now quickening as this much anticipated exhibition rapidly approaches (it takes place from 8th - 11th May). I say 'much anticipated' but frankly, this is one show that I actually get really excited about - despite the many miles I walk in an effort to cover it. Indeed, such is my anticipation, that having read this morning that Kirk Bradley, one of the UK's most wanted escaped criminals, who fled from a prison van in Manchester last July, has been found in Amsterdam, my first thought was that he'd been trying to make sure he didn't miss the show! While Cleanzine isn't running a preview, we will be doing our usual Show Daily broadcast from the event, so if you want us to visit your stand and share what you're exhibiting with our 80,000-plus readers around the globe, do get in touch soon and let us know why we should pay you a visit. Look forward to hearing from you... Yours, This Week's News
EU countries failing on 2020 waste target Europeans dump the bulk of their rubbish in landfills and many EU countries appear to be falling well short of 2020 targets for recycling municipal waste, new figures from the EU statistical agency show. Eurostat figures show that the 10 countries that have joined the EU since 2004 send the vast majority of their waste to landfills. But the data also shows that older member countries - including Greece, Ireland, Portugal and Spain - dump more than half their rubbish. Stephan Arts from Reflex Systems responds to last week's comment by Futureclean Assured Systems' Rafael Cobos. Rafael himself had written to us to argue that the science of cleaning is something that is often misunderstood and that proper training is needed if surfaces are to be cleaned and properly sanitised (read his comment here: We would welcome further comment on either e-mail. Dear Jan, I read with interest the e-mail from Rafael Cobos, which was published in last week's Cleanzine. I agree with Rafael's view, but please allow me to share two comments with your readers concerning his statement. With a fast growing customer base across Europe, KGS Diamond Group has expanded its floor finishing and refurbishment product range even further with a cleverly designed mobile system that polishes and renovates terrazzo; marble; concrete and natural stones with ease. Stephan sent an email direct to Rafael, who has forwarded his reply to us: Dear Stephan, Many thanks for your reply in which you have rightly pinpointed the main problem of defining 'What is Clean?', 'What is visibly clean?'. We know that this term is highly subjective and therefore open to interpretation. Grout discoloration problem rectified at Rolls-Royce showroom Truvox distribution partner, Cleaning Systems UK of Cupar in Fife, has solved a problem for Murray Rolls-Royce in Edinburgh after the refurbishment of the Rolls-Royce showroom floor with cream limestone tiles created cleaning difficulties. "Cleaning the new tiles with a conventional mop just didn't shift the dirt that gathered in the grouting" explains Brian Dickson, Sales Manager of Murray Rolls-Royce. "A Rolls-Royce showroom must remain pristine and just cannot be allowed to look dirty. So I searched on the Internet for somebody to help and fortunately found Cleaning Systems UK in Cupar."
