IFMA: World FM Day statements from IFMA President and CEO, IFMA Chair

* ifma-tony-keane.jpgWorld FM Day was launched by Global FM in 2008 to increase the profile of the facilities management profession around the world. Over the years, it has inspired hundreds of individuals, companies, associations and partners to celebrate their successes and demonstrate the important contribution facilities management brings to the built environment across the globe.

In recognition of World FM Day 2013, which was last week, IFMA President and CEO Tony Keane, CAE and IFMA Chair Marc S. Liciardello, CFM, MBA, CM released the following statements:

IFMA President and CEO Tony Keane, CAE:

"Each year the International Facility Management Association joins several other global associations in celebrating the many accomplishments of the facility management industry. Together, the FM experts who helped create the profession will continue to shape its course for the future. In IFMA's Houston-based Service Center of Excellence, we'll be celebrating with our local Houston chapter. We encourage and engage our members around the world to participate with us remotely. Our chapters are participating, as well as our fellow global FM organisations.

"World FM Day is more important than ever, because we're facing a shortage of qualified FMs down the road. It can be so easy to forget all the contributions that this profession makes to the world. We are working to recruit more students into FM and I encourage you to invite students to become a part of this profession to help make a bigger difference. Happy World FM Day and I wish you great success as we continue down this journey of facility management."

IFMA Chair Marc S. Liciardello, CFM, MBA, CM:

"Over the past year as IFMA's chair, I've had the amazing opportunity to meet facility managers from around the world. I've seen firsthand the unique challenges each of us faces. I've witnessed brilliant problem-solving and innovation that comes from taking on those challenges as a community.
"As facility managers, it's far too common for our successes to remain under the radar. It's our job to make things work, and when things work no one notices. This is what makes World FM Day so important. Not only do we recognise and celebrate the successes of our profession, but in doing so we share the ideas that made those successes possible. World FM Day is the exclamation point for the facility management industry."
IFMA is the world's largest and most widely recognised international association for facilities management professionals, supporting more than 23,000 members in 85 countries. The association's members, represented in 130 chapters and 17 councils worldwide, manage more than 37 billion square feet of property and annually purchase more than US$100 billion in products and services. Formed in 1980, IFMA certifies professionals in facilities management, conducts research, provides educational programmes and produces World Workplace, the world's largest facilities management conference and exposition.
