Andrew Jones named as new President of AHCP

* AHCP-andrew-Jones.jpgThe Association of Healthcare Cleaning Professionals has named healthcare facilities management veteran Andrew Jones as its new President. Taking over as the AHCP's figurehead and leader, Andrew brings over 30 years' experience at senior levels in the healthcare facilities management sector of the NHS to the role.

Speaking at last week's AHCP annual conference and exhibition following the announcement of his appointment, Andrew said: "It is a great honour to be asked to take up this role. A professional healthcare cleaning service is essential both in improving patient care and providing safer infection control.

"I intend to focus on expanding the critical task of raising the profile of professional healthcare cleaning. As part of this I will be aiming to strengthen AHCP's existing relationships with infection control and the Royal College of Nursing, on delivering the AHCP's strategy and inspiring the membership."

Andrew is currently the Director of Allied Clinical and Facilities Services at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. In this role he combines responsibility for all of the estates and facilities management functions as well as the allied healthcare professions and pharmacy at the Trust.

In 2004 Andrew project directed the Trust's NHS Foundation Trust application which culminated in Foundation status being granted for Chesterfield Royal Hospital from January 2005. He continues to be a board member of the Trust and carries lead responsibility for food, cleanliness, health & safety, the estate and procurement.

Andrew was National Chair of the Health Estates & Facilities Management Association
from 2004 - 2006 and has been secretary, vice chair and chair of the Trent HefmA branch. In addition he has been part of the steering group at Sheffield Hallam University Facilities Management Graduate Centre.
