New methods 'save time and money'
New methods of cleaning will reap benefits for local authorities when it comes to cleaning large public institutions such as schools, colleges and civic buildings, according to a cleaning expert.
Brian Boll, of Jigsaw Cleaning Systems - provider of cleaning advisory services to the private and public sector - says that new methodologies combined with the very latest in materials can contribute to make major time and cost savings.
This follows an announcement by the world cleaning organisation ISSA of a new initiative on behalf of its members to highlight the benefits financially and environmentally of efficient cleaning and to educate facilities managers how to take advantage of the measurable gains it can bring.
"The initiative by ISSA has come at a timely moment, with cutbacks across the board affecting the public and private sectors," says Brian. "It is even more important than ever that local authorities realise the efficiencies that can be made in cleaning time and resources if they use the latest methods and materials.
"Some of the spaces in public sector buildings are by nature quite large and heavily used. This means the methods must be efficient, using less water where possible and so less time for cleaners in having to refill and replenish materials.
"Ideally, you will use one set of water and materials for one area to also make sure cleaning is efficient without cleaners having to move around unnecessarily."
He cites one example where the Variwet Quick Mop could be used for an area covering the average six-bed hospital bay of about 25 square metres or more without having to refill for water or replenish materials.
Moreover, the training of cleaners on how to apply these methods and materials will clarify the best use of these opportunities and reap the benefits for the client organisation.
Brian also emphasises the benefits of new methods for cleaners themselves, with less direct exposure to cleaning liquids and vastly reduced amounts of water required and therefore reduced bending, time spent walking to and from water filling stations and a reduced risk of slips, trips and falls.
