Ace Janitorial celebrates 40th Anniversary

* Ace-Janitorial.jpgAce Janitorial of Sheffield, one of Jangro's founding organisations in 1980, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Ace, is one of the North East's most successful and resilient independent janitorial supplies companyies. It has traded through several recessions and remains as successful today as it ever has been - boasting a £2m annual turnover.

Attercliffe-based Ace was formed by Alf Cullumbine, who built his business on supplying local steel making and engineering companies with goods from a van at the factory gates.

He built the business on listening to customer needs, sourcing the best products and delivering them on time with a fast personal service. In 1980, when Jangro was setting up with identical business ethics, Alf immediately joined and Ace remains a key player in today's 40 strong Jangro Membership.

Ace remains a family affair today as the company is operated by Alf's sons Phil, Paul and Mark. It now sells very little to what remains of Sheffield's Steel industry because the business has evolved to meet the demands of a variety of growing service sectors, but the personal family service remains.

"Our business profile has changed greatly," says Phil Cullumbine. "We are now supplying contract cleaners and FM companies as well as many direct accounts in hospitals, care homes, schools and businesses in leisure and tourism.

"The belief that 'customer is king' was passed down from Dad and that will keep us on the right track."
