Ecover Professional: a well thought out relaunch
Ecover, the largest producer of ecological cleaning products in Europe, has relaunched its professional range with new products, new and improved formulae and new brand design.
So impressive is the new range that it is now ‘Cradle to Cradle Certified’; a certification mark licensed by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, which assesses products to ensure they are safe for both human & environmental health, designed for future use cycles and created through sustainable manufacturing processes.
Ecover products also carry the Eu-Ecolabel and the new design has been awarded the prestigious Red Dot Design award.
We had quite a long chat with the team and when I challenged them about the reputation ecologically-friendly cleaning products suffered from when first launched, they agreed that the industry has struggled a bit and that improvement had been needed across the board, but that after much hard work, many of the products now outperformed the chemically-based alternatives.
“The Ecover Professional range is now the perfect balance of power & sustainability,” they argued. “Our products - based on vegetable raw materials and minerals - are highly effective yet do not leave behind harsh chemical residues and our bottles are now made from sugar cane. This means that as a company, we save about 13,500 cans of crude oil each year – or the equivalent of 280 trips around the world! Our products are competitively priced, too.”
Well I can’t comment on the pricing, as we were lucky enough to be given some free samples. And I have to say that if the washing up liquid I am trialling at home is anything to go by, I’ll be trying Ecover products in the future. It’s working very well and I haven’t had even one complaint from my daughter who claims to be allergic to anything I buy that isn’t pink!
In a fun touch, we were told that if we plant the pencils (held in our picture by Johan Tops) once we’ve finished writing with them, they’ll sprout herbs such as basil and mint, as well as Calendula. What a great way to keep your company’s name in someone’s mind!
