Soapbox: Lyn Crowther FCMI,FBICSc, Founder/Owner, Cleanwise Training and Management, asks:

* lyn.jpgWhy Choose the CSSA Management Diploma?

How many employers can be confident that they are producing the managers and leaders they need for the future?

For over 50 years there has been cleaning operative training available which has improved the way we clean today. However there has been no recognised management / leadership training for our industry this could be both costly and detrimental to the company and our clients, as we move into more daytime cleaning, giving management closer contact with the client and the introduction of new systems of work plus the ever increasing litigations from the no win no fee culture we are now living in!

We will always need the cleaning operative to be trained but we must also start to focus on the supervisors and managers who will lead the teams.
From the Chartered Management Institute report about training within a leadership role, those managers who achieved a professional Diploma saw an improved productivity by 84% and when they were at work 81% were able to pass on their new skills to others following their qualification and 79% improved the performance of their team suggesting successful transfer of learning to the work place.

These figures indicate the investment made in the leaders gives great benefit to the team, the company and the client. There can be no doubt that the right development activities can have a transformative effect on people's management abilities.

Douglas Cooke, CEO of Principle Cleaning Services and Chairman of the British Cleaning Council, endorses the scheme and says:

"We were very pleased to support the CSSA Management Diploma training scheme and sent two senior site supervisors from Central London. English was not their first language nor were they particularly confident so it was important that the trainers recognised this.

"Having completed the course successfully, they both came back brimming with confidence and delighted to have extended their knowledge beyond just cleaning techniques.

"The course covered a wide range of associated topics such as health and safety, sustainability, margins, etc etc.

"To quote one supervisor 'I always knew we had to recycle the waste but now I can go back to my staff and tell them exactly why and because of this they should be able to carry out their duties better!' Since the course both supervisors have been promoted to site managers and run their own buildings.

"Without the CSSA Management Diploma that would not have been possible. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this cost effective course, I believe the first of its kind in the UK."
