Osmond singer's visit is music to the ears of Disposables UK

* DispUK-new-osmonds.jpgDisposables UK Group, recently played host to Merrill Osmond, lead singer of the world-famous 'The Osmonds' as he paid a visit to the company's Huddersfield premises to promote a gala evening. The event, to be held in Leeds on 1st September, will raise funds for charities, The Hearing Fund UK and Music and the Deaf, with monies benefitting deaf children in Yorkshire.

The visit was prompted by Disposables' association with the EU Ecolabel, a European wide label promoting environmental excellence in its products and services, which is a sponsor of the gala event. Disposables has worked closely with the scheme since becoming the first UK paper converter in the away from home market to gain EU Ecolabel certification on its Bay West range of paper products.

Keen to hear about the work of Disposables, Merrill Osmond met members of the Board including Chairman, Diane Storer, Managing Director, David Burkill and Marketing Manager, Emma Wood. They gave a short presentation and showcased the Bay West range, highlighting the stringent procedures they had to comply with to receive EU Ecolabel accreditation.

In turn, Mr Osmond outlined the work of The Hearing Fund UK, founded by his son Justin who was born with 90% hearing loss. Hearing loss is at the heart of the Osmonds' story. Merrill's two eldest brothers were born profoundly deaf and, as they couldn't afford hearing aids for them, their parents formed their four eldest sons (Alan, Wayne, Jay and Merrill) into a barbershop quartet to raise funds. They went on to form The Osmonds, joined by Donny and Jimmy, and became one of the world's most successful groups of the time.

Commenting on the visit, Diane Storer said: "We work in close partnership with EU Ecolabel who invited us to last year's gala evening, so it is a privilege to welcome Merrill Osmond to Yorkshire on the Ecolabel's behalf. I had the pleasure of meeting him at last year's event and found him inspiring. Anyone who was around in the 70s will remember The Osmonds as being an iconic group, and his work in support of the two charities is inspirational."
