Easy Clean Commode wins Good Design award

* commode.jpgClinell, one of the UK's leading infection control brands, has announced that its best selling Easy Clean Commode has won the Good Design award.

The Clinell Easy Clean Commode incorporates multiple novel and patented features to bring to market what it thought to be the first commode specifically designed to help improve cleaning compliance.

With only 10 components and not a single screw, nut or bolt to harbour any grime, the commodes are incredibly easy to dismantle and reassemble. The design is ultra-hygienic, multifunctional, simple and easy to clean.

Good Design is claimed to be the world's most recognised and oldest Design Awards programme. It's organised annually by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture & Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design & Urban Studies.

Entries for design and innovation, sustainability, creativity, branding, ecologically responsible design, human factors, materials, technology, graphic arts, packaging, and universal design are submitted annually by the world's leading manufacturers and Fortune 500 companies. Winners are selected from several thousands of applications across Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America. Companies are awarded the privilege of using the Good Design logo on their winning product and related marketing material, as a mark of excellence to be recognised by an international consumer audience.

Key features of the commode include the smooth moulded, non-porous design of each part, easy move lockable wheels of EasyMove and TotalStop patented design, 360 degree rotating and removable footrests which incorporate a patent pending Clip & Slide mechanism. The latex-free seat cover does not contain stitching or foam, the stainless steel frame used is non-rust, and all other materials used are non-stain and resistant to chemical damage. This minimalist design which incorporates some of the latest in design technology allows the chair to be ultra-hygienic, easy to clean and is consequently used by more than 40 NHS trusts already.

"As a testament to Clinell Easy Clean Commode's superior design, we can refer to a case study involving a large teaching hospital in the North of England," says the company's Madeline Rounds. "This hospital trust switched to the Clinell Easy Clean Commode and has seen a significant improvement in the cleanliness of its commodes. According to its own Trust Audits the new commodes have not had a single fail whereas previously they were averaging around 10 fails a month."

Some of the most distinctive global companies that have won a Good Design award include: 3M, Apple, BMW, Boeing, Coca Cola, IBM, Nestle, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche.
