SMC's success spawns specialist division set-up

* SMC_Oliver-Byrne.jpgA Stockport-based cleaning firm is enjoying continuing high levels of success in 2011, thanks to the high quality service it delivers to its clients in the North West.

Due to exceptional success in the cleaning of education buildings, SMC Premier has now opened a specialised cleaning division, catering for all needs to all educational establishments.

The company reported a 23% growth on turnover at the end of last year, and this growth has continued throughout 2011. This rapid growth led the firm to increase its staff by 35%, creating 55 new job positions. SMC expects this trend to continue, and has plans to increase its labour force by creating a further 60 new posts.

A family-owned company, formed in the 1980s, SMC Premier Cleaning provides business-to-business cleaning services in Liverpool, Manchester and North Wales, to a wide range of market sectors, including education establishments, retailing, hospitality, banking, production, distribution, healthcare and facilities management companies.

"What an exciting year SMC Premier Cleaning has had!" says Operations Director, Oliver Byrne.

"Despite the deep recession that has hit all industries and services, SMC Premier has grown, when so many cleaning companies have gone into liquidation, or ceased trading."

The company attributes its business rise to effective management, staff retention, competitive quotations, and introducing an electronic monitoring system for auditing cleaning standards for its clients. This involved a move away from a paper-based auditing system to a more efficient, streamlined computerised PDA reporting system.

All SMC cleaning staff are trained to NVQ standard, and in its drive to reduce its carbon footprint, SMC has converted 50% of its vehicle fleet to the environmentally friendly petrol alternative (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), and uses eco-friendly products.

"We get management visits on a regular basis." says the Premises Manager at Cheadle & Marple 6th Form Colleges. "We get monthly cleaning audits that are unannounced and I feel that this is good as no one knows when the audits are being done. If we need any extra cleaning done for whatever reason, SMC is quick to respond."
