How sympathetic cleaning techniques helped restore four storey Victorian building

When bespoke building and shopfitting expert Oakland Projects was renovating and modernising a four-storey Victorian house in West London it was quickly decided that the frontage of the building required specialist attention.

Decades of weathering and air pollution had left the Victorian brickwork in a poor state with oxidisation of the surface as well as metallic and carbon staining. 

So Oakland Projects called in specialist pressure cleaning and surface restoration company, Mundy Blast Cleaning of London and York.

Although the words blast cleaning sound heavy duty, the company specialises in the sympathetic restoration of all types of surfaces.

Mundy Blast Cleaning is a UK wide firm that employs the latest innovative techniques, equipment and conservation sensitive products to clean or prepare just about every type of surface in any situation, leaving it as new or ready for coating or redecoration.

Trained staff carried out test cleaning of small areas on the ground floor and fourth floor to determine the dilution rate of the non-toxic stone and brickwork cleaner that was selected to achieve the best results. Next, using a self-contained van mounted hot water washing system, the team lightly washed down all of the brickwork to remove organic growth and soiling. It was also necessary to have a damp surface to apply the correct solution and this was applied by a heavy duty pump spray using a hot water wash system to wash down the pre-treated brickwork.

Finally, after completion of the cleansing, a full, light wash was required to remove any residues.
