We have mail: tattoos

David Garcia, Chairman of Polaris Plastics and Treasurer of the Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers Association responds to a recent leader*

Hi Jan,

That was a very interesting piece regarding tattoos and in particular your leisure activities and all that goes with it. I am not at all surprised at your choice of leisure entertainment, garb and personal decoration. All strength to you.

With regards to the tattoo issue, I totally agree that employers must have the right to protect their businesses and as a result their staff in general provided of course it is lawful so to do.

I must confess to never being a lover of tattoos but the time when they sometimes shocked me has long gone due to the volume one sees these days.

That being said, we now become entangled in human rights and all that goes with it. I feel however, on balance, provided the terms and conditions (which after all are there to protect all parties) are explained and in writing at the point of interview, everyone understands the position and should comply or face the consequences.

Keep up the good work

Kind regards,

David Garcia
