Addenbrooke's staff receive specialist training

* Addenbrookes.jpgLeading healthcare services provider Medirest has enlisted training specialist Jigsaw Training to deliver apprenticeships to its front line colleagues working in Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge.

Jigsaw's partnership with Medirest, part of Compass Group UK & Ireland, will see around 31 Medirest colleagues receive specialist training over a 12 to 18 month period.

The courses on offer include a level 2 apprenticeship in cleaning and environmental support and a level 2 apprenticeship in food and beverage services, both of which include functional skills in maths and English. Medirest supervisors will also take on a level 3 apprenticeship in cleaning supervision.

Trainees will be assessed using a combination of practical and theory tests and they can access additional support and information through Jigsaw Training's online learning portal.

The apprenticeships have been made available to day, night, and weekend colleagues at the hospital, making the scheme one of the first of its kind.
"We've found in the past that training for weekend and evening colleagues just wasn't available because most training providers will only operate Monday to Friday, nine to five," reveals Donna Russell, training officer at Medirest. "Jigsaw's training is very flexible and as an organisation we're really pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to all of our colleagues.

"The feedback we've had has been excellent. Tutors arrive as and when our trainees need them and are very hands-on in their approach. The courses have huge benefits, our colleagues are developed within their roles and gain skills in maths and English, and hopefully the training will result in increased performance in all areas. The courses have also boosted morale because they lead to a nationally recognised qualification of which our colleagues can be proud."

James Blackhurst, managing director at Jigsaw Training says: "One of Jigsaw Training's strengths is our ability to provide clients with bespoke training programmes which fit in with their practical requirements. Of course, not every business operates on a standard nine to five routine.

"Our partnership with Medirest focuses on equal opportunities for all. To raise standards through training it is essential that each individual is supported, trained and valued, regardless of the hours they work."

Jigsaw Training and Medirest also worked in partnership to deliver a weekend open day to promote the training schemes to colleagues at Addenbrooke's Hospital, which led to several new candidates registering their interest in courses.

Jigsaw Training is a total training solutions company providing the complete package from training needs analysis through to the design, administration, delivery, management and evaluation of all programmes. As an approved centre with City & Guilds, BIFM, Edexcel and NOCN, the company is required to be audited for quality and good practice on a continuous basis.
