With the celebration of the best of the UK’s washrooms shortly to take place when the Loo of the Year Awards are announced in just four weeks’ time, the news that teachers in Uganda are taking strike action because of the poor facilities they have to endure, provides a stark reminder of just how lucky so many of us are in the developed world.
It would pay those amongst us that don’t appreciate our washrooms and who selfishly don’t bother to leave them in a clean and hygienic state for the next user, to have to dig their own latrines, as the Ugandan teachers have resorted to doing (see story below).
And if you haven’t yet reserved your place at the 2013 Loo of the Year Awards presentation event, which despite being based on something very serious and important is also a lot of fun, you’ll need to do so quickly as tickets are selling fast.
In addition to the presentations, there will be a sparkling wine reception, four course meal with wine, an exhibition, and entertainment from Bobby Davro, the gifted comedian/impersonator and star of many TV shows (most recently Dancing on Ice and Eastenders).
