Get Waste Smart at the Facilities Show 2013

With many FM professionals facing recycling and waste reduction targets in their jobs, and with new responsibilities coming in due to the EU Waste Framework Directive, sustainable waste management and resource efficiency are moving fast up the FM sector agenda.

The drive for profitability is integral to every business, and optimising resource management by putting in place more sustainable waste practices not only reduces bottom-line costs and improves competitiveness, but also boosts green credentials by minimising any environmental impact.

To help FM companies implement better waste management and prevention systems, the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management will be at the Facilities Show 2013 in May to launch Waste Smart. This one-day training course is designed to help businesses cut waste costs, improve their environmental performance and fulfil legal requirements. The course has been developed with support from the Department of Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and other key expert bodies including the Environment Agency, and supplies delegates with simple, practical and instantly transferable waste management skills.

Just two months after its inception, Waste Smart is set to deliver its first course north of the border. The staff of Zero Waste Scotland, the Scottish body dedicated to supporting the transition to a zero waste society, will take the course, with a further four sessions planned to assist a selection of hand-picked Scottish businesses. The information provided will become even more vital following the launch of the Waste (Scotland) Regulations which come into effect in 2014.

Waste Smart is run through a series of franchised centres and trainers, and throughout the Facilities Show there will be special offers for FM professionals interested in becoming franchisees, as well as deals on bespoke training packages.

The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management is the leading professional body for the waste management sector representing over 7000 individuals in the UK and overseas.
